Establishment Romney failed to connect with white, working class voters in Ohio, known a generation ago as 'Reagan Democrats'-AP, 9/25/2012

9/25/2012, "Romney, Obama zero in on Ohio, a GOP must-win," by Charles Babington and Kasie Hunt, Vandalia, Ohio

"Romney is scrambling to reverse the polls that show Obama ahead....But he's having mixed success with his chief target: white, working-class voters who are socially conservative and often have union backgrounds. A generation ago they were called "Reagan Democrats."...He is having trouble connecting with middle-class Ohioans."...

329,000 fewer whites voted in Ohio in 2012 than in 2008 per calculations of Romney pollster Neil Newhouse.
Romney desperately didn't want to be president, would've been ecstatic to drop out. It's a shame he got even a single vote. As Romney's son reported:

"“He wanted to be president less than anyone I’ve met in my life. He had no desire to...run,” said Tagg (Romney's son), who worked with his mother, Ann, to persuade his father to seek the presidency. “If he could have found someone else to take his place...he would have been ecstatic to step aside.""...
