A dog with scabies

"General information on Scabies

Scabies is caused by a microscopic spiderlike insect called a mite. Probably no other skin disease will cause your dog to scratch and bite at himself with such intensity. The intense itching is caused by the female mites tunneling a few millimeters under the skin to lay their eggs. Mites hatch in three to ten days. The immature mites develop into adults and begin to lay eggs of their own. This whole cycle takes seventeen to twenty-one days.

Symptoms of Scabies

The symptoms of scabies are intense itching and scratching of the skin around the ears, elbow, hocks, and face. Early hair loss and crusts are often seen in these areas. You may also notice small red bumps that itch."...
