7/17/14, "Protests of “immigration surges” slated for July 18-19," Legal Insurrection, Leslie Eastman. "Trying to deal with a domestic disaster"

"While eyes are turned to Gaza and the Ukraine today, I wanted to offer some information about attempts to deal with a man-caused disaster on our own soil.

Citizens across the country are organizing a series of protests addressing the immigration surge of supposed “refugees” swamping our border control resources.

Over 250 events are being organized over the next few days, which include 41 locations in California, 34 in Texas, and 20 in Florida.

"The purpose of the protest is to raise awareness of the impacts of illegal immigration and to show opposition to the administration’s handling of the recent border surge of illegal alien youth. The events will take place in various cities around the country on the July 18th and 19th.

Deemed the “National Days of Protest against Immigration Reform Amnesty & the Illegal Immigration Surge,” the more than 300 protests currently scheduled nationwide will target state capitals and the offices of policy makers in support of amnesty programs and increasing levels of legal immigration. Political activist Paul Arnold is the organizer of this movement, and has received help in launching these protests from numerous grassroots organizations across the country."

While not a “Tea Party event”, the new networks created by Americans are now being used to ensure that the word of these protests gets out. Dawn Wildman, a California state Tea Party coordinator and founder of the SoCal Tax Revolt Coalition, explains the goals:

We want to make sure that our leaders, representatives, and the press get the whole message,” Wildman explained. “Looking at the press, and comparing it to what people who actually live in the communities are saying, we don’t think it is. And the main piece of that message that is missing is that the small towns and rural communities receiving these immigrants don’t have the resources to handle them. Think of the gang violence and infectious diseases that our communities may potentially experience.”

In fact, the lack of serious media coverage related to reasonable concerns is being reported widely by grassroot observers.  One local activist, whose name is really John Hancock, is a Spanish-speaker married to a Mexican.  He was ignored when he tried to engage a reporter:

"…I thought for sure the reporter from a Spanish-speaking station would love to interview a white protester who is fluent in Spanish. I now realize that I just didn’t fit the narrative that they wanted to tell. I could not be presented as an uneducated, white racist who is protesting the arrival of these children for no other reason than that they are from Latin American countries. I kick myself for being so naïve...."

The impact on the small communities targeted for immigrant relocation is also a key issue.  Wildman noted that before the surge, Murrieta was rated as the “second safest city in the nation” by the FBI.

“Using Murrieta as an example, if several hundred immigrants rolled into their small community, and a portion of them were MS-13 or other gang members, how would the small police force be able to cope with this situation?  While Murrieta got the buses to turn around, other small towns haven’t. How long before their hospitals are overcome with sick patients and the city budgets are crumbling because they are now paying for services to non-citizens?”

In fact, the governor of one state noted for its small towns is complaining about the influx of immigrants:

"In a sign of the far-reaching impact of the U.S. immigration crisis and its political fallout, Nebraska’s governor says 200 children who entered the country illegally were sent to his state this week without warning and that federal officials are refusing to identify them or their locations.

Gov. Dave Heineman, a Republican, said federal officials also wouldn’t answer questions about public school attendance by the children and the potential costs to taxpayers."

Wildman concluded that this is one protest that will cut across party lines. “Americans of all political stripes are angry that the administration is shamefully using children for political purposes, and hurting its citizens while doing so. These protests are just one of the many ways we will be responding.”
