'If the GOP won't, we will get it done for Ken Cuccinelli for Governor of Virginia,' Lloyd Marcus.

.
10/30/13, "If the GOP Won’t, We Will Get It Done for Cuccinelli," Lloyd Marcus, LloydMarcus.com

"Hello! GOP! Anybody home? In case you guys in DC do not know, there’s a gubernatorial race happening in Virginia in a week. While our guy Conservative Republican Ken Cuccinelli is amazingly holding his own, in terms of campaign spending, the Democrats are kicking our butts.

Meanwhile, We the People, grassroots across America are passionately engaged and have made the race tightly competitive. Remarkably, polls show the Virginia race down to 1%. Turnout will be the deciding factor. http://bit.ly/1eOj22I

For those of you unaware, I am Chairman of Conservative Campaign Committee. Showing my age, do you remember the TV show, “Have Gun Will Travel” starring Richard Boone as Paladin? Think of me as a Paladin armed with the Constitution, traveling the country delivering political justice.

We get involved in key races which have national repercussions. Our goal is to restore America back to the vision of our founding fathers; individual liberty and freedom. Our game plan is quite simple, elect as many Conservatives as possible.

Battered, scared and outspent in the (NJ Steve) Lonegan race,"...

[Ed. note: "Lonegan won a higher percentage of the vote for U.S. Senate than any Republican in the Garden State has gotten in a dozen years.” Without a dime from the Republican Party. Imagine what this country could be like if both US political parties weren't democrat.]

(continuing): "we have licked our wounds and dived head first into helping conservative Republican Ken Cuccinelli defeat the hardcore liberal Democrat candidate for the governorship of Virginia.

Here is what our independent expenditure campaign is doing in support of Cuccinelli. We are heavy on newscasts but also have bought NBC’s Sunday Night Football, the World Series, FOX & CBS NFL Football, College Football, and the Sunday national political news shows (Face the Nation, Meet the Press, This Week, and Fox News Sunday). As you can imagine, these media buys are expensive. Such is the political arena in which we are forced to fight. http://bit.ly/17SdIX1

With the Virginia gubernatorial election only a week away, Democrats are staying true to their play book. Our Liar and Chief will campaign with the Democrat candidate this weekend and New York Mayor Bloomberg has funded a nearly $2 million ad blitz smearing our conservative candidate, Cuccinelli.

FYI folks, Ken Cuccinelli was the first Attorney General in the country to sue the federal government over Obamacare. A firm believer in individual freedom and limited government, Cuccinelli thinks Obamacare violates both principles. Do you see why we need this guy to win folks?

I am extremely excited and proud of the the work our team at Conservative Campaign Committee is doing. Preparing for the home stretch, our Ms Lulu is fired up as well as her call-from-home volunteers. Please check out the latest TV ads we have produced supporting Cuccinelli. http://bit.ly/17SdIX1

With little help from the GOP, it is up to us, We The People."

Comment: The GOP hoped New Jersey would go to the democrats on Oct. 16, now they're hoping Virginia goes to the democrats. The GOP didn't give a dime to its candidate for US Senate from New Jersey, Steve Lonegan in his recent contest against Cory Booker. Now they've given little or nothing to "their" candidate for Governor of Virginia, Ken Cuccinelli who faces untold millions pouring in from billionaire democrat special interests. Translation: The GOP needs to file paperwork officially switching its party affiliation to democrat. P.S. The Bush family gets credit for destruction of the two party system, the merger of the GOP with democrats:

======

In 2007 Peggy Noonan wrote about George Bush #1 and #2 casually destroying the GOP:

6/2/2007, Too bad,” Wall St. Journal column by Peggy Noonan

“One of the things I have come to think the past few years is that the Bushes, father and son, though different in many ways, are great wasters of political inheritance.

They throw it away as if they’d earned it and could do with it what they liked. Bush senior inherited a vibrant country and a party at peace with itself. He won the leadership of a party that had finally, at great cost, by 1980, fought itself through to unity and come together on shared principles. Mr. Bush won in 1988 by saying he would govern as Reagan had. Yet he did not understand he’d been elected to Reagan’s third term. He thought he’d been elected because they liked him. And so he raised taxes, sundered a hard-won coalition, and found himself shocked to lose the presidency, and for eight long and consequential years. He had many virtues, but he wasted his inheritance.

Bush the younger came forward, presented himself as a conservative, garnered all the frustrated hopes of his party, turned them into victory, and not nine months later was handed a historical trauma that left his country rallied around him, lifting him, and his party bonded to him. He was disciplined and often daring, but in time he sundered the party that rallied to him, and broke his coalition into pieces. He threw away his inheritance. I do not understand such squandering.

Now conservatives and Republicans are going to have to win back their party. They are going to have to break from those who have already broken from them. This will require courage, serious thinking and an ability to do what psychologists used to call letting go. This will be painful, but it’s time. It’s more than time.”

10/17/13, Dem ‘Referendum’ on Tea Party Fizzles: Booker Margin in N.J. Barely Half of Obama’s in 2012,” John Fund, NRO
.
Democrats did everything they could to portray yesterday’s special election for a Senate seat in New Jersey as a referendum on Republicans and the Tea Party. They clearly fell short of their expectations as Democrat Cory Booker underperformed his showing in almost all the polls, and wound up winning by only 10.3 points. By contrast, President Obama won New Jersey by 18 points just last November. At the same time, Democratic senator Robert Menendez cruised to a 19-point victory over a veteran moderate Republican state senator.
.
In a video released on Monday, President Obama had urged people to vote for Democrat Cory Booker “to send a message to the entire country about what kind of leadership we expect from our representatives in Congress, that we’re better than the shutdown politics we’ve seen in Washington.” Booker himself endlessly referred to Republican Steve Lonegan’s time as head of the state’s chapter of Americans for Prosperity, a tea-party-aligned group.

But Booker’s strategy didn’t seem to work and may even have energized Lonegan’s base. Booker had a 35-point lead only six weeks ago. A Rutgers-Eagleton poll released just last Monday still showed him with at 58 percent to 36 percent lead. Quinnipiac’s poll released on Tuesday had Booker with a 14-point lead. Only the Monmouth University poll that came out on Monday properly pegged Booker with a ten-point lead.

Lonegan lost, but his principled campaign showed the strength of conservative activists in a state that hasn’t voted Republican for president in a quarter-century. Since the campaign culminated with the government shutdown in Washington, it can’t be said that voters rose up to protest Republicans as Obama and Booker urged. In defeat, Lonegan won a higher percentage of the vote for U.S. Senate than any Republican in the Garden State has gotten in a dozen years.” via Mark Levin show

===================================
.
Comment: Mark Levin has said at least twice on his radio show that the Republican Party didn’t gave a dime to Steve Lonegan’s campaign. Thank heaven. Now the so-called GOP can take no credit for Steve’s great showing. Apparently they were embarrassed enough that an RNC official came to a rally one day before the election.

 =============================

Winners don't need losers:

Lonegan’s campaign suggested the best path would be opposite of any suggested by major RNC losers like Karl Rove and Ari Fleisher:
.
8/15/13, National Democrats Cast New Jersey Senate Candidate As Symbol Of GOP Rebranding Struggles, buzzfeed.com, Ruby Cramer
.
Steve Lonegan, the Republican senate nominee barely known outside the state, is about to get a lot of attention — but not from his own party. “No one in New Jersey cares what the RNC thinks anyway,” the Lonegan camp says.”
“Karl Rove and Ari Fleischer? The ones responsible for losing everything? We’re supposed to listen to them?” asked (Lonegan strategist) Shaftan. “We should do the opposite of everything they suggest.”

“No one in New Jersey cares what the RNC thinks anyway, Shaftan said.”…

Richmond Times-Dispatch Editorial on ‘latest embarrassment’ of sleazy Terry McAuliffe

.
10/31/13, Today’s top opinion: Sleazy money,” Richmond Times-Dispatch Editorial

Terry McAuliffe’s campaign worked swiftly to limit the fallout from his latest embarrassment. Joseph Caramadre now rots in prison for stealing identities from terminally ill patients to further an investment annuity scheme — a scheme in which McAuliffe invested several years ago.

When the story broke recently, McAuliffe hastily donated his hefty gains from the deal — along with another big chunk of change Caramadre had given to McAuliffe’s 2009 gubernatorial campaign to charity.

That’s fine, but it doesn’t answer any important questions. For instance: Why didn’t McAuliffe list the investment on his disclosure forms in 2009? And why did he think wagering on the estates of the terminally ill was an acceptable investment practice?

And perhaps most important, this point:

McAuliffe’s campaign says he was merely a “passive investor.” It is easy to be a passive investor in, say, Coca-Cola by purchasing shares in an index fund that aggregates stocks from hundreds of companies. It is not so easy to be a passive investor in an elaborate annuities scheme known to a well-connected few.

This suggests two possibilities: Either McAuliffe knew what he was investing in, and had no qualms about it; or he invested in a scheme he knew nothing about, simply because his buddies said it would be a good idea — a possibility that does not speak well of him either as a businessman or as the potential future overseer of Virginia’s economic development funds.

Which is it?” via Free Rep.

BBC reports global CO2 may be in 'permanent slowdown' despite jump in coal use in UK, Spain, France, and Germany. Suffering Europe economies forced to go back to cheap coal

.
10/31/13, "Report suggests 'permanent slowdown' in CO2 emissions," BBC, McGrath

(Following about increase in coal use is sidebar on BBC article, main article about CO2 follows).

"Back to the black stuff"

"The rise of shale in the US pushed down the cost of coal, beleaguered European economies turned to it, in ever-increasing amounts.

The UK leads the way with its biggest rise in coal use since 2006, up 24% in a year. A similar rise was seen in Spain, with France and Germany also showing increases. Ironically, Poland and the Czech Republic reduced their use by 4 and 8% respectively.

"Countries like Germany, the Netherlands and Italy have new coal plants and that is a decision for 40 years ahead - you can control particulates, it's not so much a problem. But for the CO2 it's quite dramatic," said Dr Maenhout."

======================

(Following is from main BBC story about slowdown in CO2 emissions):

"Global emissions of carbon dioxide may be showing the first signs of a "permanent slowdown" in the rate of increase.

According to a new report, emissions in 2012 increased at less than half the average over the past decade.

Key factors included the shift to shale gas for energy in the US while China increased its use of hydropower by 23%.

However the use of cheap coal continues to be an issue, with UK consumption up by almost a quarter.

The report on trends in global emissions has been produced annually by the Netherlands Environment Assessment Agency and the European Commission's Joint Research Centre.

It finds that emissions of carbon dioxide reached a new record in 2012 of 34.5bn tonnes....

But the rate of increase in CO2 was 1.4%, despite the global economy growing by 3.5%....

In the US, the shale revolution continues to make waves. Overall emissions were down by 4% in the year mainly because of a continuing shift from coal to gas in the generation of electricity. Shale is now responsible for one third of US gas production and almost one quarter of total oil production....

The other major decline came in the European Union where economic recession in the 27 nation bloc saw emissions decline by 1.3%. This was down to a decrease in energy consumption of oil and gas, with a 4% decline in road transport."...

-------------------------

Comment: It's still the evil US's fault. They forced coal to be cheap which forced economies starved by greedy, parasitic monarchs like Prince Charles to have to use coal again.

Japan eases CO2 target though it needs no CO2 target at all. China controls global CO2 and erases sacrifices made by Japan and every other country

.
10/30/13, "Easier greenhouse target in offing," Japan Times, Kyodo

"The government is making final arrangements to set a target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 3.8 percent from 2005 levels by 2020, according to a government source.

The source said the new target assumes there would be no restarts of nuclear reactors and takes into account energy-saving measures and renewable sources, as well as forest absorption of carbon dioxide.

Environment Minister Nobuteru Ishihara is expected to announce the new target at the 19th Conference of the Parties to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, or COP19, to be held in Poland next month.

The new target was created after the government decided to review the earlier policy of cutting emissions by 25 percent from 1990 levels by 2020, with achievement of the goal hampered by the reduced reliance on nuclear power because of the Fukushima debacle, the source said.

The new target represents an increase of 3 percent from 1990 levels and could draw international criticism." via Free Rep.

House Republicans demonstrate no strategy or desire to win against ObamaCare itself at Sebelius hearing, one Republican even said his constituents were eager to use ObamaCare-Rush Limbaugh

.
It's fine if Republicans find their ideology compatible with Democrats'. They simply need to immediately file paperwork making their Democrat status official.

10/30/13, "Republicans Demonstrate No Strategy or Desire to Win at Sebelius Hearing," Rush Limbaugh

"RUSH:  Okay, so let me ask you a quick question.  Have you been watching the Sebelius hearings today?  Good.  Tell me what you think....I'm getting e-mails, "Boy, this Sebelius, oh, is she looking bad. Oh, my God, it's embarrassing. Oh, jeez..."...

And my friends, I'm sorry, but I have a different take. I mean, she does look all that, but are there any Republicans there?  There are?  Really?  I haven't seen any evidence of it.  There's some Republicans at that hearing?  Really?  They've got a purpose?  They've got a strategy?...Everybody's now caught up in whether Obama knows the details of this or not, and I'm just gonna tell you, he doesn't care. He doesn't care. Mao Tse-tung didn't know the details, all of them. Neither did Fidel.

I'm just saying these guys have a different agenda. The details don't matter. The chaos is what's crucial here, and with every new day of chaos, they're closer to what they really want, which is single payer.  And if the Republicans don't understand that, they can nail Sebelius all day long and they're not gonna accomplish anything. That's all I'm saying.

Now before we go to the audio sound bites, let me give you a quick overview, just a quick review of the hearings today, folks, with Kathleen Sebelius. I didn't hear it all....But what I saw alarmed me a little bit.  It didn't seem to me that the Republicans were organized or prepared and the Democrats are

They're constantly, always moving their agenda forward. They're always moving their ideology forward. They always have a plan; they're always on the attack. We've got a gold mine here, and we're not using it. I didn't hear a question -- and there could have been one asked. I didn't hear a question about any no-bid contracts.  I didn't hear any Republican say, "Look, if you guys can't even launch the website, if you guys can't even get a website up and running, how in the world you gonna run one-sixth of the US economy?"

It's like they're afraid to. It's like there's still a fear of going after Obama, or going after Sebelius, just from the consultant level of the party or whoever's running the Republican Party. There seems to be some instruction that's gone out from on high to back off. "Don't even get close to making it look like it's personal! Don't be mean!" I'm at a loss. Well, no. I'm not at a loss to understand it.  I know exactly what's going on.  There is no Republican ideology is what is going on.

There is no Republican strategy. There is no ideology. Now, it may well be that there is a strategy. It could well be that whoever came up with this idea that, "Well, this thing's in the middle of the imploding. Just back out and let it." Maybe that's the instruction that's gone out. "You know, don't be mean, don't be critical, 'cause this thing's imploding itself, and it'll go down," and that's such a big mistake. Because with every new day of chaos, Obama and the Democrats are getting closer to what they want, which is single payer....

I didn't hear any ideological questions whatsoever. I didn't hear anything. In fact, one Republican I heard (I don't remember his name) said, "My constituents want to be able to buy insurance, and you're making it impossible."

What are you saying, bud?  Your constituents do not want them! He was from Texas. I saw that. "My constituents want to be able to buy health insurance and they want to be able to go to your website to do it."

No, they don't want to go to this website.  What is this guy talking about?  It's very frustrating for me. Sebelius is clearly being hung out to dry here. She is clearly the fall girl. She's gonna survive.  Obama's not gonna get rid of her....I don't know that the Republicans did much damage.

A few of 'em gave her hell on the basis of incompetence and the website and this kind of thing? Okay. (interruption) People are losing their policies. Okay. All right. Fine....Snerdley's here defending some of them. "Well, they went after her." I guess the question then is, "Okay, people watching this want to scrub it now?" Well, okay  If people watching this do not want to get rid of Obamacare, then this is not a factor.

It's all I'm saying.

Republicans had a chance here to try to convince people, "We don't want this. We have to find a way to get rid of it. It's hurting too many people," whatever -- and if the people watching do not have as a take-away that we want to get rid of this, then no damage done, right? That's my take on it. You might say the Republicans don't want to win. I've talked to professional athletes about the concept of knowing how to win.
.
The first one that ever explained it to me in a way that made sense was Danny Ainge of the Phoenix Suns. It's not enough that you have great talent. It's not enough that everybody on the team's great. You've got to know how to win. It's an attitude combined with a desire -- and then after you win, you have to want to be in the position of having won without any guilt, without any regrets.  It's the old saw about some people afraid of success because they simply don't have enough confidence in themselves.

So when they do experience success, what they end up telling themselves is, "It's not deserved, it's not warranted," and therefore it isn't gonna last....It's not really success," and they talk themselves out of it.  I think there is a pervasive attitude in the Republican Party right now that they can't win. They don't think they can win because of the media, they don't think they can win because of whatever -- and if they don't think they can win, they're not gonna try to.

Knowing how to win is a really key thing, and the Democrats don't have any problems like that. They don't care. They'll lie. They're Alinskyites. They will lie, they'll make things up, they'll even hurt their own people in the process, as long as they win what they want -- and it is their people, along with everybody else, being hurt by this fiasco. But guess what has been learned? There is, in fact, a pretty big union carve-out in Obamacare where they are not subject to all of the things that are happening right now.

They've got their subsidies.

So a big Obama constituency, along with members of Congress and their staff, are exempt.  But there are a lot of Democrats being hurt. We've had the stories from the news yesterday. Individuals told their stories of how they lost their insurance.  Some of these of people are Democrats.  A lot of them are.  A lot of them voted for Obama, and a lot of them have said they wouldn't do it again. Democrats don't care about their own people being hurt here because their objective is to get single payer....

When this day of hearings is over, the American people ought to be rising up demanding this thing be scrubbed. That's the opportunity we had here, and apparently Republicans don't look at it that way."

House Energy and Commerce Committee members

======================

Comment: I looked at the list of Republicans on this committee starting with pathetic Chairman Fred Upton and immediately understood why the hearings were a waste of time and a disservice to Americans who paid for them. GOP House Speaker Boehner believes GOP House members must do what Obama wants or at minimum give him no problems. A significant number of GOP names on this committee would have no problem with that or at minimum are more eager to please Mr. Boehner than the voters who elected them. It's fine if the GOP establishment wants the same things democrats want--big government, crony capitalism, and permanent, dependent voters--as long as they immediately file paperwork and make their democrat status official. The US can't survive without a healthy 2 party system.

Shortly after Obama’s 2012 re-election the NY Times was given access to contents of a 'private' meeting conducted by GOP House Speaker Boehner. GOP House members agreed with Boehner they must do what Obama wants. Perhaps as a reminder of what befalls those who don't follow orders, the Times notes Boehner raised $100 million for select 2012 House campaigns:

12/6/12, Boehner gains strong backing from House Republicans,” NY Times, Steinhauer

“Many House Republicans appear to view Mr. Boehner with the same sort of respect that adult children award their parents for the sage counsel they ignored in their younger days.…

On Wednesday, in a private meeting between Mr. Boehner and House Republicans, member after member spoke in support of him, in some cases saying a deal they would have rejected six months ago would most likely be taken today.
.
“I want to be a strong advocate and say that I am with the speaker,” said Representative Scott Rigell of Virginia, a House freshman. “I am with the leadership.”
.
Further helping Mr. Boehner, at least for now, is the sense that he is no longer forced to look constantly over his shoulder, fearing a counterproductive move by Representative Eric Cantor of Virginia, the majority leader who has spent much of the past two years quietly maneuvering around Mr. Boehner.
.
Mr. Cantor signed on this week to Mr. Boehner’s package including $800 billion in new revenue, putting him squarely on the same page with the speaker. Representative Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin, the chairman of the Budget Committee and recent vice-presidential candidate whom many of the most conservative members look to for cues, also signed on.
.
That proposal, along with the speaker’s approval of a decision to strip plum committee assignments from four members who consistently voted against the leadership, has brought great consternation from conservative groups and influential conservatives outside the House. But Mr. Boehner and the majority of his members seem willing to ignore the outcry.

Then there is the not-small matter of fund-raising:
Mr. Boehner, who on Wednesday spoke briefly by phone with Mr. Obama about the budget standoff, raised nearly $100 million for Republican House candidates this election cycle, including incumbents, further securing good will.

The dynamic may shift if some members, especially those from very conservative regions, begin to chafe against any deal they feel gives too much ground to Democrats. But for now, Mr. Boehner’s stronger hand is a significant shift from previous periods of negotiations, from the first battle over a short-term spending agreement to a fight over the payroll tax to the battles last year over the debt ceiling that led to the current crisis.”…
(continuing):Our members understand the serious issues this country faces,” Mr. Boehner said Wednesday, when asked about the shift in his conference. “They understand that we’ve got to solve this problem, and we will.”
.
Several Republicans said Wednesday that the combination of the onerous nature of the potential tax increases and spending cuts and the realities of the recent election combined to bolster Mr. Boehner’s support.
.
“I think the presidential election has something to do with it,” said Representative Adam Kinzinger of Illinois.
  • “We understand that we’re going to have to deal with Obama for four more years.
Also, there is an understanding that this is a very serious situation.“”…

Comment: “Much leverage?” You’re the House. You have 100% veto proof power on allocating and withholding money. You have a radical left president in a second term who’s already achieved his stated goal of ‘fundamentally transforming America’ and who never has to face voters again. The duplicitous GOP seeks to deprive citizens of checks and balances authorized by the government they pay for. At minimum, everything a radical left president proposes should simply be turned down. A President can still do whatever he wants by Executive Order and regulation. If Obama’s is the only election that counts, fine, then go home! As to “getting something done,” when the GOP says it wants to “get something done, (parag. 7) it means screw the people and reward cronies and the radical left.

Added: Two days after Obama’s re-election John Boehner enthused that ObamaCare was “the law of the land simply due to Obama’s re-election. ObamaCare isn’t the law of the land, isn’t legal to this day. Among other things, Mr. Boehner failed his constitutional duty to hold a vote in the House up or down on ObamaCare as a tax.
House Speaker John Boehner made it official Thursday: Obamacare isn’t going anywhere. In an interview with ABC News, Boehner seemed to suggest the election ended any efforts to wipe out the whole law. When “World News” anchor Diane Sawyer asked if there would be any more votes to repeal the law, Boehner saidthe election changes that” and “Obamacare is the law of the land.””

Global joke Obama admin. now blames German economic success for rest of world being poor

.
Contrary to Obama admin. claims of insufficient German domestic activity, German “GDP in the second quarter of 2013 was driven up by demand from both consumers and businesses.”

10/30/13, US says German exports harming eurozone economy,” UK Telegraph

“The US has reprimanded Germany, saying its exporting prowess is hampering economic stability in Europe and also hurting the global economy.

It came as the US Treasury said the Chinese yuan remains undervalued despite its significant appreciation this year and called on Beijing to disclose more about its market intervention.

For years, America’s semi-annual currency report has been an occasion for the US government to publicly criticise China’s foreign exchange practices, but this time Germany appeared to eclipse the Asian giant in terms of prominence within the document.

The Treasury Department said Germany should focus more on boosting domestic growth in order to make the European economy more stable.

Germany’s anaemic pace of domestic demand growth and dependence on exports have hampered rebalancing [of the eurozone economy],” the Treasury said in the report.

“The net result has been a deflationary bias for the euro area, as well as for the world economy,” it said in the report.

Deflation is one of the most worrisome forces in economics and refers to persistent drops in wages and prices.

The Treasury noted, for example, that Germany’s net exports of goods, services and capital exceeded those of China in 2012. The policy recommendations for Germany also topped the list of actions Washington feels are necessary to make the global economy more stable.

Turning to China, the Treasury stopped short of officially labeling the country a currency manipulator, a designation that could spark US trade sanctions. The yuan, or renminbi (RMB), “is appreciating, but not as fast or by as much as is needed”, the Treasury said.

“In line with the practice of most other G20 nations, China should disclose foreign exchange market intervention regularly to increase the credibility of its monetary framework and to promote exchange rate and financial market transparency,” it said.

The Treasury also singled out Japan and South Korea for undervalued currencies. But it acknowledged that Tokyo has not intervened in foreign exchange markets for almost two years, and that the yen’s fall came from the government’s stimulus.

As for the Korean won, it said market participants estimate Seoul had intervened in early 2013 to hold down the currency as the yen weakened, and continued to intervene through the middle of the year.

The yuan rose 6.3pc on a trade-weighted basis in the first nine months of this year, more than the other currencies covered in the Treasury report.

But the Treasury tied that to the fall of the Japanese yen against most major currencies. Meanwhile, against the US dollar, the yuan only rose 2.2pc.

It cited data from the International Monetary Fund in July saying the yuan was undervalued by 5pc to 10pc against a broad basket of currencies.

It said China’s large-scale purchases of foreign exchange this year, driving its reserves to $3.6 trillion, “is suggestive of actions that are impeding market determination and a currency that is significantly undervalued”.

As regards Japan and South Korea, the Treasury report was more measured than the previous one in April, when both were warned against weakening their currencies to gain trade advantage.

The Treasury said it will “continue to closely monitor Japan’s policies and the extent to which they support the growth of domestic demand.”

The Treasury said that the Korean won remained undervalued by 2-8 percent, according to IMF data, and noted that Seoul had amassed $326 billion in foreign exchange reserves, more than it needs.

“We will continue to encourage Korean authorities to limit foreign exchange intervention to the exceptional circumstances of disorderly market conditions,” it said. In addition, in line with the practice of most other G-20 countries, Korea should disclose foreign exchange market intervention shortly after it takes place.”"

10/30/13, “US criticises Germany and China policies,” BBC

Germany is eurozone’s largest economy has been one of its key drivers of growth in recent years..

Its importance to the 17-nation bloc has only increased since the development of the region’s debt crisis, which has impacted other bigger economies such as Italy and Spain.
.
It has been one of Europe’s stronger economic performers and its exports prowess is seen as one of its key strengths.

The country narrowly avoided recession earlier this year, but GDP in the second quarter of 2013
Analysts said that while Germany could benefit from boosting domestic demand, the criticism levied on its policies was unfair.

“I think this is a bit strange,” Tony Nash, vice president at IHS, told the BBC. “The eurozone has to get growth from somewhere and Germany is the most likely place for that to happen.”

“And it is better for eurozone to have a highly concentrated, efficient and skilled export powerhouse in Germany than not have any major engine of growth,” he added.”…

Solar co. left contaminated, carcinogenic squalor at Colorado site, millions more tax dollars needed to decontaminate filth and cancer left by green ‘stimulus’ recipient Abound Solar. Cadmium used to make solar panels is cancer agent

.
10/30/13, Bankrupt solar panel firm took stimulus money, left a toxic mess, says report, Fox News and AP

A Colorado-based solar company that got hundreds of millions of dollars in federal loan guarantees before going belly-up didn’t just empty taxpayers’ wallets – it left behind a toxic mess of carcinogens, broken glass and contaminated water, according to a new report.

The Abound Solar plant, which got $400 million in federal loan guarantees in 2010, when the Obama administration sought to use stimulus funds to promote green energy, filed for bankruptcy two years later. Now its Longmont, Colo., facility sits unoccupied, its 37,000 square feet littered with hazardous waste, broken glass and contaminated water. The Northern Colorado Business Report estimates it will cost up to $3.7 million to clean and repair the building so it can again be leased.

“As lawyers, regulators, bankruptcy officials and the landlord spar over the case, the building lies in disrepair, too contaminated to lease,” the report stated.

The owner of the property tried to force a bankruptcy trustee to clean the facility, but the report said it would “place humans at imminent and significant health risk. One of the hazards is the presence of cadmium, a cancer-causing agent that is used to produce the film on the solar panels, the report said.

While the loan guarantees exposed taxpayers to hundreds of millions of dollars, the federal government lost a total of $70 million backing the failed company. Unsold inventory which should have been used to offset those losses, including 2,000 solar panels, mysteriously disappeared, according to the National Legal and Policy Center.

If a coal, oil or gas company pulled something like that the EPA would send out SWAT teams and the U.S. Marshals to track down the offenders, bankrupt or not,” the center said in a report of its own.

President Obama touted Abound in a July 3, 2010 announcement of a $2 billion “investment” in green energy projects.

“The second company is Abound Solar Manufacturing, which will manufacture advanced solar panels at two new plants, creating more than 2,000 construction jobs and 1,500 permanent jobs,” Obama said. “A Colorado plant is already underway, and an Indiana plant will be built in what’s now an empty Chrysler factory. When fully operational, these plants will produce millions of state-of-the-art solar panels each year.”

But less than two years later, the company laid off half of its 400 workers, and then, in the summer of 2012, filed for bankruptcy. It became the third clean-energy company to seek bankruptcy protection after receiving a loan from the Energy Department under the economic stimulus law. California solar panel maker Solyndra and Beacon Power, a Massachusetts energy-storage firm, also declared bankruptcy. Solyndra received a $528 million federal loan, while Beacon Power got a $43 million loan guarantee.

While solar energy is touted as clean, The Associated Press reported that many panel makers are grappling with a hazardous waste problem. Fueled partly by billions in government incentives, the industry is creating millions of solar panels each year and, in the process,
  • millions of pounds of toxic sludge and contaminated water.
To dispose of the material, the companies must transport it by truck or rail far from their own plants to waste facilities hundreds and, in some cases, thousands of miles away.

The fossil fuels used to transport that waste, experts say, is not typically considered in calculating solar’s carbon footprint, giving scientists and consumers who use the measurement to gauge a product’s impact on global warming the impression that solar is cleaner than it is.

After installing a solar panel, “it would take one to three months of generating electricity to pay off the energy invested in driving those hazardous waste emissions out of state,” said Dustin Mulvaney, a San Jose State University environmental studies professor who conducts carbon footprint analyses of solar, biofuel and natural gas production.

The waste from manufacturing has raised concerns within the industry, which fears that the problem, if left unchecked, could undermine solar’s green image at a time when companies are facing stiff competition from each other and from low-cost panel manufacturers from China and elsewhere.”
