3/4/14, "Read John Feehery as Loyalist and Tea Party as Continental Army," by Jen Kuznicki
"If you want to know what lobbyists, who are raking in loads of cash from the Chamber of Commerce, think about the tea party, just read John Feehery. But make sure you read him as a loyalist to King George, bitching about the Continental Army, so you can really understand the context here.
Feehery: The Tea Party is not my cup of tea.“The Second Continental Congress, meeting in Philadelphia, appoints Washington commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. Washington hurries to Boston, where he finds a ragtag army of 14,500 men, untrained, undisciplined but, in his words, ‘able bodied, active, zealous in the cause and of unquestionable courage.’” -Chronology of the Revolutionary War
Everybody who reads this blog knows that fact. Some folks who like the Tea Party have actually stopped reading this blog because I have been so outspoken in my distaste for this rag-tag group of nihilists who are doing their level best to bring down the Republican Party.
Feehery: When 12 Members of the House Republican Conference voted against the Republican choice for Speaker a year ago, I called for them to be ousted from the party. Why should the party structure support a bunch of guys who won’t support the overwhelming choice of the party rank and file, I reasoned?“On Christmas night, in a blizzard, he leads his men across the ice-flecked Delaware River to Trenton, NJ, surprises a drunken Hessian garrison, and seizes Trenton for a time. Washington slips away to Princeton, where he strikes the British rear. Leading the attack on his horse, he shouted:
Let the Tea Party start their own Party, and let’s be done with it. And then when election time roles around, we will see which party actually wins. Will it be the Tea Party, the Republican Party or the Democratic Party?
In most Republican districts, thanks to the wonders of redistricting, the Republican candidate would win. The Tea Party candidate might win a few, but I doubt it. Democrats might win a few seats that they shouldn’t win in this scenario, but even that would be a teachable moment for those Tea Party sympathizers who believe that Tea Party principles are better than Republican principles.
‘Parade with me, my brave fellows!’ And when the British lines break, he leads the charge with another shout: ‘It is a fine fox chase, my boys!’” -Chronology of the Revolutionary War
Feehery: The Tea Party’s first organizing principle is that it hates Obama. Its secondary principle is that it hates the Republican establishment, whatever that might be.“He (Washington) marches 11,000 men, many barefoot, into grim winter quarters at Valley Forge. Foragers roam the countryside in search of grain and livestock. He orders the inoculation of every soldier against smallpox and maintains harsh discipline. In spring, his men emerge hardened and spoiling for a fight.” -Chronology of the Revolutionary War
Its vision of conservative varies with the Tea Party group. Some of the Tea Partiers focus on immigration. Others attack crony capitalism. Still others hate all government spending. Some think the Constitution needs to be rewritten, just as they call themselves constitutional conservatives.
They hate common core standards. Hate Obamacare. Hate extending the debt limit. Hate reopening the government. Hate the NSA. Hate immigrants. Hate the establishment. Hate big corporations. Hate Labor. Hate the Federal Reserve. Hate foreigners. Hate. Hate. Hate.
Feehery: But hate is not a policy agenda. Early this week, one of the Tea Party groups tried to put forward a positive agenda, but it sounded mostly like typical Republican ideas.“Washington attacks a British force leaving Philadelphia for New York. When a general retreats instead of attacking, Washington dresses him down, swearing at him ’till the leaves shook the trees,’ a soldier later says. Then Washington takes command. ‘His presence stopped the retreat,’ a staff officer writes. ‘…by his own presence, he brought order out of confusion, animated his troops, and led them to success.’” -Chronology of the Revolutionary War
I guess the basic difference between the Republican Party and the Tea Party is that Tea Party is better at expressing its hatred of President Obama.
And they like to express their dislike for Mr. Obama in fairly personal terms. But they just don’t spew disgust with Obama. They also spew venom at Mitch McConnell and John Boehner.
The Tea Party’s champion in Washington is Ted Cruz.
Feehery: And Boehner, to his credit, read the writing on the wall. He has a job to do, and that is running the House.“Washington discovers that Major General Benedict Arnold, who had been a brave and shrewd officer in many battles, is a traitor: Arnold has agreed to surrender West Point, key fort on the Hudson River, for money and a commission in the British army.
If the Tea Party isn’t going to give him votes to pass a debt limit with spending cuts, he would find votes in other places.
The Democrats were more than willing to extend the debt ceiling and they didn’t ask for anything other than it to be clean.
So Boehner went with plan B, and that was the end of it.
Washington, who often takes direct charge of intelligence gathering, had set up a spy network that helped to reveal Arnold’s treason. He escapes, but Washington authorizes the hanging of Arnold’s case officer, Major John AndrĂ©, a British officer who spied in civilian clothes. ” -Chronology of the Revolutionary War
Feehery then goes on a tirade against Ted Cruz, questioning his patriotism, his oath, and his motives for 22 paragraphs.
When people who are getting paid by the tea party’s mortal enemy, the Chamber of Commerce-made so by the Chamber itself declaring war upon it-go on forever bitching about one man fighting the establishment, it means we are really under their skin.
John Feehery is exactly the kind of guy the tea party pisses off, because his whole life is built around growth of government at the expense of the individual.

One thing's missing from this analysis: The continental army was willing to lay down their lives for principle. The Tea Party seems to believe that politicians will fix what politicians broke. Folly. As a nation, we don't have the stomach to do what should be done."

"Brent Morehouse
R.T. - you nailed it on the head! Today's Tea Party is lost - just like the Tea Party of the 1760's to 1774(ish). They too, believed that reform could be pushed through a corrupt central government. The fact that today's Tea Party went to D.C. (!) to commemorate the 5th Anniversary of Santelli's rant, shows that they think D.C. will ultimately bring forth reform. They are wrong - dead wrong, however, the original Tea Party also went through this disillusionment stage. Hopefully this is a 'stage' and that the Tea Party members will realize that the reform they seek will NOT come from the existing Republican Party, and will NOT come through D.C."

My comment: Much of the TP's original focus has been co-opted by the GOP. Some TP groups today are complete fakes, ie GOP front groups. Aside from that, we remain the Silent Majority who won't accept a US government that has become totally corrupted. There's apparently a huge amount of money to be made selling out the US taxpayer. Since there's only one functioning political party today, the radical left democrats, no one in the Beltway represents us. In fact, we're laughed at. You have to be insane to want to keep a country on this path.
