No terror attacks had taken place in Nevada but Harry Reid got funding for 'Las Vegas Fusion Counterterrorism Center' to allow 'joint operations' with fed. forces. Nevada law enforcement offices also received $23million US taxpayer dollars via 2009 Obama stimulus

10/23/2009, "Obama's Cabinet Visits Reid Country," CBS News

"The visit from Holder underlined a theme that Reid has been trying to impress upon Nevadans: He's in the position to ensure Nevada gets its fair share of federal resources. Reid reminded Nevadans that he helped secure money for the counterterrorism center and that law enforcement agencies in the state got $23 million through the $787 billion economic stimulus bill....

Attorney General Eric Holder was the ninth Cabinet member to visit Nevada during the past six months. Holder and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., toured facilities on Saturday designed to help law enforcement officers respond to security threats.

Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have also attended fundraisers in Nevada for Reid....Eric Herzik, professor of political science at the University of Nevada-Reno, said he doesn't know whether the visits help Reid's political standing going into next year's election, but he says they can't hurt it.

"It draws attention to Nevada, a state that is often overlooked," Herzik said. Herzik said he would also disagree with those who would say the trips amount to campaign visits.

"Given our reliance in some areas on the federal government, it makes sense. They should have been out here 20 years ago," Herzik said."

Nevada law enforcement received $23 million US taxpayer dollars in the 2009 Obama stimulus bill. Las Vegas became a model for blending federal and local government:

Las Vegas, NV—"Nevada Senator Harry Reid today met with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, U.S. Attorney for Nevada Dan Bogden, Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto, as well as local, state, private, and federal law enforcement to tour the Las Vegas Fusion Counterterrorism Center. The Fusion Center was created to allow local, state, private and federal law enforcement to coordinate, communicate and respond to security threats with joint operations.

Sen. Reid played a major role in securing the funding to build the center that is giving Nevada an edge when it comes to coordination between private and public law enforcement.

Attorney General Holder praised Nevada’s implementation of public/private partnership, saying that Las Vegas is a model for other cities to emulate. The group also discussed the recovery package, which provides $23 million for our law enforcement to create additional task forces and purchase needed equipment.

“Through the technology at the Fusion Center, local and federal law enforcement are able to communicate better, track crime, prevent terror attacks, and prepare for disasters,” said Reid. “I want to thank the Attorney General and our state law enforcement for making this unprecedented coordination work so well to keep the people of Nevada safe.”"
