Cancerous K St. GOP so-called 'Young Gun' group endorses NJ machine 'Republican' for congress over Steve Lonegan who got more votes in NJ than GOP guy Mitt Romney

.
In Oct. 16, 2013 NJ special election for US Senate seat between Tea Party Republican Steve Lonegan and Democrat Cory Booker, Booker won, but...Steve Lonegan polled 4% better than mega-financed Mitt Romney did in 2012." So why is MacArthur even running? Probably for the same reason he ran in 2010—to keep a conservative out of the race."...

4/1/14, "Why did the National Republican Congressional Committee Young Gun Program just endorse a RINO in New Jersey?" RedState.com, Rino411 (promoted from diaries by E. Erickson)

"TEA Party conservative Steve Lonegan is fighting RINO unknown Tom MacArthur for the soul of the GOP in New Jersey’s 3rd congressional district.

Liberal Republican Mayor Tom MacArthur of Randolph has a lot of money but not a lot of support. And so, like any former insurance company CEO with ties to AIG, he’s trying to buy it by bribing the local GOP county clubs in New Jersey’s third congressional district.
MacArthur gave over $25,000 to the Ocean GOP County to buy the powerful organization’s endorsement which promptly endorsed him. This was something of a foregone conclusion. MacArthur’s consultant, Chris Russell, lists Burlington County GOP, Ocean County GOP, and the National Republican Congressional Committee on his client list. On Wednesday the NRCC endorsed Tom MacArthur has part of its “Young Guns” program.

But MacArthur appears not to have been vetted by the NRCC given his tax and spend politics. The purpose of these endorsements is to try to force conservative Steve Lonegan out of the race and to create the impression that there’s a groundswell of support behind MacArthur. In other words, GOP establishment suits and not third congressional district primary voters are picking the candidate.

Not that it has done him much good. MacArthur’s campaign has thus far been a farce. He complimented the Ocean County County party leadership, “for running a fair and open process that I think brought out the best of all of us” after being endorsed by the club to which he had donated....

MacArthur is running against Steve Lonegan. Lonegan won the third congressional district when he ran for U.S. Senate
against Cory Booker. Even though Lonegan lost to Booker in the special election in October, Lonegan won a higher percentage of the vote for U.S. Senate than any Republican in New Jersey has gotten in a dozen yearsand he ran as a conservative. “Lonegan lost,” noted columnist John Fund, “but his principled campaign showed the strength of conservative activists in a state that hasn’t voted Republican for president in a quarter-century. Unsurprisingly Lonegan is defeating MacArthur handily in at least one poll because he has a record."...

Statewide, Lonegan ran 4 percent ahead of Mitt Romney--enough to have elected Romney had he run that much better nationwide.”…

Beltway GOP "Young Guns" group urged Democrats to vote against a conservative Republican in 5/8/12 GOP primary:

4/28/12, "The Ultimate Treachery," Daniel Horowitz, RedState.com

"I’m at a loss for words; I’m really not sure what to think of this.

What word would you use to describe someone from party A (Republican) asking members of party B (Democrat) to vote down a member of party A (Republican) for supporting a fundamental view of party A?

Politico’s Maggie Haberman is reporting that the leadership-affiliated Young Guns Network has sent out mailers asking Democrats to vote for Dick Lugar (not exactly a young gun) in the Indiana Republican primary against Richard Mourdock on May 8."...

GOP "Young Guns" group is Beltway corruption and bribery:

4/10/12, "GUEST COLUMN: Why GOP Young Guns program is deceptive," mywebtimes.com

Illinois primary

"Young Guns is a program of the National Republican Congressional Campaign (NRCC), which bills itself as committed to building the "next generation of conservative leaders." Those words are from the home page of the project's website http://www.gopyoungguns.com.

The website is misleading. While Young Guns solicits donations from Tea Party and conservative donors, the GOP house leaders that run the program actually use it to elect GOP moderates over conservatives.

The corruption doesn't end there. Insiders that work for the NRCC actually use the money generated by the program to promote friends and business associates, "encouraging" candidates to hire certain consultants before they will get support.

The campaign manager of one conservative candidate used the word "extortion" to explain how the sordid system works. Here is a real world example.

In what political reporter John Gizzi of Human Events described as, "the nastiest primary of the year so far," Representative Adam Kinzinger defeated  20-year veteran [and Tea Party supported] Congressman Don Manzullo. The Manzullo vs. Kinzinger race gave us a glimpse of how the program works. Manzullo is a strong conservative with a lifetime American Conservative Union (ACU) rating of 96, compared to the more moderate Kinzinger, who scores a miserable 72 out of 100 from the ACU.

When two members face off against each other, it is unusual for the GOP leadership to choose sides. But in this case, the Young Guns Action Fund unleashed a $50,000 advertising blitz, which deceptively called the more moderate Kinzinger "an important part of the next generation of conservative leaders" and "a conservative rock in the fight against runaway government spending."

Illinois conservatives were furious about what they saw as a betrayal by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, the leader of the Young Guns Action Fund."...

[Ed. note: Cantor's Deputy Chief of Staff and former Deputy Chief of Staff are listed as Young Guns Action Fund's leaders, so technically Cantor can say he's not involved: "The (Young Guns) super PAC is run by two Cantor aides, John Murray and Brad Dayspring. Murray, Cantor’s deputy chief of staff, founded and currently runs all three components of the “Young Guns” brand."]

(continuing): "Jameson Campaigne of Ottawa, a leader of conservatives in the Land of Lincoln, went so far as penning an email to fellow members of the ACU board asking for Eric Cantor's invitation to the ACU's Conservative Political Action Conference to be revoked for next year."...

Steve Lonegan for Congress, 3rd NJ CD

=====================

In 2013 the GOP completely ignored Steve Lonegan, didn't give him a penny. One RNC guy showed up the day before the election. Sarah Palin and Mark Levin campaigned for Lonegan 10/12/13:

Thanks anyhow, RNC:

Lonegan’s campaign suggested the best path would be opposite of any suggested by major RNC losers like Karl Rove and Ari Fleisher:

Steve Lonegan, the Republican senate nominee barely known outside the state, is about to get a lot of attention — but not from his own party. “No one in New Jersey cares what the RNC thinks anyway,” the Lonegan camp says.”

“Karl Rove and Ari Fleischer? The ones responsible for losing everything? We’re supposed to listen to them?” asked (Lonegan strategist) Shaftan. “We should do the opposite of everything they suggest.”

“No one in New Jersey cares what the RNC thinks anyway, Shaftan said.”…

10/17/13, Dem ‘Referendum’ on Tea Party Fizzles: Booker Margin in N.J. Barely Half of Obama’s in 2012, John Fund, NRO
.
Democrats did everything they could to portray yesterday’s special election for a Senate seat in New Jersey as a referendum on Republicans and the Tea Party. They clearly fell short of their expectations as Democrat Cory Booker underperformed his showing in almost all the polls, and wound up winning by only 10.3 points. By contrast, President Obama won New Jersey by 18 points just last November. At the same time, Democratic senator Robert Menendez cruised to a 19-point victory over a veteran moderate Republican state senator.
.
In a video released on Monday, President Obama had urged people to vote for Democrat Cory Booker “to send a message to the entire country about what kind of leadership we expect from our representatives in Congress, that we’re better than the shutdown politics we’ve seen in Washington.” Booker himself endlessly referred to Republican Steve Lonegan’s time as head of the state’s chapter of Americans for Prosperity, a tea-party-aligned group.

But Booker’s strategy didn’t seem to work and may even have energized Lonegan’s base. Booker had a 35-point lead only six weeks ago. A Rutgers-Eagleton poll released just last Monday still showed him with at 58 percent to 36 percent lead. Quinnipiac’s poll released on Tuesday had Booker with a 14-point lead. Only the Monmouth University poll that came out on Monday properly pegged Booker with a ten-point lead.

Lonegan lost, but his principled campaign showed the strength of conservative activists in a state that hasn’t voted Republican for president in a quarter-century. Since the campaign culminated with the government shutdown in Washington, it can’t be said that voters rose up to protest Republicans as Obama and Booker urged. In defeat, Lonegan won a higher percentage of the vote for U.S. Senate than any Republican in the Garden State has gotten in a dozen years.” via Mark Levin show
