"The First Couple was commemorating the 8th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, which this year is designated a National Day of Service and Remembrance.
"I call upon all Americans to join in service and honor the lives we lost," Mr. Obama said in a presidential proclamation....
Having fulfilled the remembrance portion of the proclamation, the Obamas returned to the White House, got into some dry clothes, and then headed to a Habitat for Humanity housing project in Northeast Washington, D.C.
They toured two side-by-side row houses and then rolled up their sleeves to begin painting the interior. Mr. Obama used a roller while the First Lady performed more delicate work in a corner of the room with a brush. They spent about half an hour at it."...photo AP

Volunteering is great and Americans who have the extra time are very generous in donating it. In re-focusing 911, it might have made sense if emphasis was put on volunteering for 911 related causes such as rescue dogs, or getting the best technology to police and fire fighters, etc. But that's not what this was, it was just that Americans don't give enough. Major League Baseball among others eagerly jumped on the Obama bandwagon to take the focus off 911 and put it on the idea that Americans haven't given enough:

And when true Americans want to "participate"

The left has always wanted to downplay 9/11/01. The fact that we saw more terror on 9/11/12 has not registered with the left and never will. It's not how they think:
