10/17/12, “FBI Announces New York Terror Plot Arrest,” My Fox Philly
“The FBI says a man was arrested Wednesday morning in lower Manhattan after attempting to detonate a 1,000-pound bomb, but the public was never at risk.
According to the FBI, a 21-year-old Bangladeshi traveled to the U.S. in January 2012 to carry out a terrorist attack against the Federal Reserve building in New York, just blocks from the site of the 9/11 attack at the World Trade Center.
The suspect is expected to be charged with attempting to provide material support and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.
According to the FBI’s Field Office in New York, the suspect wanted to “destroy America” and believed best way was to target US economy. He purchased bomb components and conducted surveillance for attack in New York City.
He also allegedly actively sought out al-Qaeda contacts within the U.S. to assist in carrying out an attack and referred to “beloved Sheikh Osama bin Laden” to justify killing of women and children.
The suspect assembled what he believed to be a 1,000-pound bomb inside a van Wednesday morning on his way to New York City before being arrested.
The FBI says it controlled the entire operation to ensure the safety of the public and New Yorkers.” via Zero Hedge
