- 7/13 on MSNBC on Chris Matthews, Senator Gregg said TARP was a great success, has made $17 billion for US taxpayers and companies have paid back most of the money.
- In contrast, on 6/29, Reuters reported Obama was strongly criticized by for failing to oversee TARP funds, that he doesn't even have staff in place to do it,
- and has not even begun to look at 3 of the 6 companies involved (Reuters cites "Treasury" for failure, doesn't actually use Obama's name):
Reuters, 6/29: "The Office of the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (Sigtarp) said Treasury was
- not meeting its responsibility for monitoring how insurer AIG, Bank of America, Chrysler, Citigroup, GM and GMAC use bailout funds.
"Twenty months into its administration of TARP, Treasury simply has no legitimate excuses as to why it has still failed to accomplish
- the critically important task of assembling a robust compliance staff," the audit report said."...
- Judd Gregg was badly misinformed, or
- Judd Gregg is lying.
""Well, they're wrong, "said Gregg. "The simple fact is that T.A.R.P did what it was supposed to do, it basically saved the financial system on Main Street.""
