Most 2012 GOP losses were backed by Rove and GOP establishment including Wisconsin, New Mexico, Maine, Michigan, Connecticut, N. Dakota, Montana, and Hawaii

"The Senate Conservatives Fund issued the following statement today regarding news that American Crossroads has formed a new super PAC comically named the "Conservative Victory Project" to oppose conservative candidates in GOP primary elections. The new super PAC is supported by Karl Rove and will be run by Steven Law, the former Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

"
The Conservative Defeat Project is yet another example of the Republican establishment's hostility toward its conservative base," said SCF Executive Director Matt Hoskins. "Rather than listening to the grassroots and working to advance their principles, the establishment has chosen to declare war on its party's most loyal supporters. If they keep this up, the Republican Party will remain in the wilderness for decades to come."

Pollster Scott Rasmussen recently rebuked party bosses for these heavy handed tactics in a nationally syndicated column. Rasmussen said, "The Republican establishment has two choices. They can act as mature party leaders of a national political party, or they can protect their own self-interest. Mature party leaders would spend a lot more time listening to Republican voters rather than further insulating themselves from those voters."

"
This is a continuation of the establishment's effort to avoid blame
for their horrible performance in the 2012 elections," said Hoskins. "They blew a ton of races up and down the ticket because they recruited moderate Republicans who didn't stand for anything. Now they want to use this new PAC to trick donors into giving them more money so they can lose more races."

In 2012, there were 27 Republican challengers yet only three were elected. All three were SCF-backed, anti-establishment conservatives

U.S. Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX),
Jeff Flake (R-AZ), and
Deb Fischer (R-NE).

The other 24 Republican challengers were defeated. A few of these candidates were conservatives, but most of the losers were moderates. Notable examples include the candidates in

Wisconsin,
New Mexico,
Maine,
Michigan,
Connecticut,
North Dakota,
Montana, and
Hawaii.

The Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF) was established to help promising conservative candidates overcome the Republican establishment's bias against them. Since 2010, SCF has raised over $25 million and helped elect eight outstanding leaders to the U.S. Senate, including

U.S. Senators Pat Toomey (R-PA),
Marco Rubio (R-FL),
Rand Paul (R-KY),
Mike Lee (R-UT),
Ron Johnson (R-WI),
Ted Cruz (R-TX),
Jeff Flake (R-AZ), and
Deb Fischer (R-NE).

If the GOP establishment had its way, many of these leaders would not be in office today.
SCF is both principled and pragmatic in its approach. Of the 11 candidates SCF helped nominate in Republican primary elections in the past two election cycles, seven went on to become U.S. Senators. SCF was founded in 2008 by former U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) and became an independent PAC in July 2012." via Erickson twitter
