"This is a game ill-suited to the likes of Boehner and McConnell. The GOP candidate who can counterpunch the hardest will probably be the nominee."
I've been saying this for over a year, but this is the way the party is organized. There just is no one charged with speaking up for the party and it's values. The RNC Chairman is a fundraiser, not a leader, so that position is out, too.
Several days ago, Karl Rove replied when asked what John Boehner would say to counter the administration's budget position, replied that 'Boehner was playing it smart. Having made a point, he should now
- sit back and let people see the wisdom of it.'
Unfortunately, most of our potential candidates agree with Rove. Trump is performing a needed service, but I will continue to doubt his intention to run until he announces it. In the meantime, the candidates best advancing conservative causes are Governor Palin and Congressman Bachmann. Cain speaks well, but has no government experience. Having criticized Zero for that, I can't give Cain a pass, but he could fill a Cabinet position, and I think would be happy with one where he could make a difference."
