4/23/19, “Self-Harm Versus the Greater Good: Greta Thunberg and Child Activism,“ quilette.com, by Paulina Neuding
“After years of depression, eating disorders, and anxiety attacks, she finally receives a medical diagnosis: Asperger’s syndrome, high-functioning autism, and OCD. She also suffers from selective mutism—which explains why she sometimes can’t speak to anyone outside her closest family. When she wants to tell a climate researcher that she plans a school strike on behalf of the environment, she speaks through her father. The book Scenes from the Heart (“Scener från Hjärtat,” 2018) recounts these medical difficulties and the events that led to Greta Thunberg’s now-famous “school strike for climate,” in which hundreds of thousands of children have refused to attend school to protest about government inaction over climate change. Greta herself strikes every Friday and spent three weeks sitting outside the Swedish Parliament at the beginning of the school year. Written by her family—mother, father, Beata and Greta—the story is told in the voice of Greta’s mother, the opera soprano Malena Ernman, who was a celebrity in Europe long before her daughter’s fame….The book posits that oppression of women, minorities, and people with disabilities stem from the same overarching root problem as climate change: an unsustainable way of life. The family’s private crisis and the global climate crisis, the authors argue, are simply symptoms of the same systemic disorder….I do not wish to suggest that Greta is too young to understand the consequences of her actions, nor that the challenges she faces make her unsuitable to take a stand on political issues, or even to lead a global movement. No one who has heard her address world leaders in impeccable English can doubt that she is very intelligent. Ernman also stresses that her daughter has never felt better than during her campaign for the climate. Greta herself has said that realizing that she could do something about climate change has helped her recover….But adults have a moral obligation to remain adults in relation to children and not be carried away by emotions, icons, selfies, images of mass protests, or messianic or revolutionary dreams. Greta was recently named ”Woman of the Year” by a Swedish newspaper. But she is not a woman, she is a child. It is time we stopped to ask if we are using her, failing her, and even sacrificing her, for what we perceive to be a greater good.”

Added: Seeking “climate action?” Just find some US taxpayers. Chart below shows the beginning of 3 decades of massive, secret “action” by US taxpayers. Thanks to Bush #1, the entire US political class and their unlimited access to US taxpayer cash, “climate action” exploded in 1990 and will continue as long as US taxpayers exist. …(Chart below, page 4, pdf, is an underestimate, doesn’t include congressional appropriations): [p. 11] “The pursuit of an integrated national agenda to study climate change and implement policy initiatives took a critical step with passage of the Global Change Research Act of 1990.This act established institutional structures operating out of the White House.”

2013. These data, however, do not represent congressional climate science funding appropriations to other government agencies. Fall 2015, “Causes and Consequences of the Climate Science Boom,“ independent.org, Butos and McQuade
“Government policies and funding as well as the emergence of a scientific “Big Player” [UN IPCC] that has aggressively championed the hypothesis of anthropogenic global warming (AGW)1, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), have together fomented a boom in climate science that began in the early 1990s and has grown markedly.”…
[p. 5] “With policy preceding the science,
a host of crony capitalist enterprises has emerged to seize on
government support of the AGW hypothesis to obtain loans, tax breaks,
and other financial backing from public sources, and we document the overall performance of these entities to date.”…
[p. 6] “In science, the essential ingredient needed by most scientists to continue their participation is funding, and because science itself is not self-funding, this financial support must come from an outside source.”…
[p. 7] “Climate science has grown from a scientific backwater to an active, well-funded, and important area of research over a period of about thirty years.”…
[p. 8] “The way in which the IPCC is organized [17] and its methods for eliciting agreement on the conclusions given in its reports [18] have transformed it into the conduit of pervasive bias. Scientists are appointed to the panel by government officials; the panel’s summary reports are edited by politicians and environmental activists without further scientific review; lax oversight allows scientists to assess their own work; relevant peer-reviewed literature is often ignored; and the much quoted percentage assessments of confidence in particular conclusions are arrived at by a process of discussion and compromise that is hardly a scientific method of characterizing uncertainty.”
[p. 11] “And as a herd-inducing Big Player in science, the IPCC has provided synergy for the interventions by Big Players of a different sort, the government entities that have seized on the IPCC-generated consensus to [divert US taxpayer dollars to] fund the climate science boom and thereby justify increasing economic interventions by citing the threat implied in the AGW hypothesis.”
[p. 11] “The past fifteen years have seen a sustained program of funding, largely from government or quasi-government entities. [25] The funding efforts are spread across a bewildering array of sources and buried in a labyrinth of programs, agency initiatives, interagency activities, and presidential offices, but what they seem to have in common is an adherence to the assumption that human activity is primarily responsible for the warming observed in the latter part of the twentieth century. Funding appears to be driving the science rather than the other way around, and the extent of this funding appears not to have been fully documented. [26]”
[p. 11] “The pursuit of an integrated national [taxpayer-funded] agenda to study climate change and implement policy initiatives took a critical step with passage of the Global Change Research Act of 1990. This act established institutional structures operating out of the White House to develop and oversee the implementation of the National Global Change Research Plan and created the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) to coordinate executive departments’ and agencies’ climate-change research activities. [27] The USGCRP operates as a confederacy of the research components of thirteen participating government agencies, each of which independently designates funds.”…

Comment: The 1990 US Global Change Research Act includes no science but assumes a “global change” crisis and looks forward to surrendering US citizens to “international” rules: “An Act To require the establishment of a United States Global Change Research Program aimed at understanding and responding to global change, including the cumulative effects of human activities and natural processes on the environment, to promote discussions toward international protocols in global change research, and for other purposes.” No science was presented to prove an assumption that CO2 was a life-threatening pollutant that needed to be “reduced.” Instead, USGCRP mentioned CO2 negatively once near the very end of the document. In Sec. 204, item #4, among research topics to disseminate to foreign governments and others: “promoting the conservation of forest resources which help reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.” These few words stated as fact without the slightest shred of evidence caused trillions of dollars to begin to change hands and converted US taxpayers to global slaves. Media would repeat it a few million times as if it were true, end of story. The “climate crisis” invention was based on permanently demonizing and punishing Americans in 3 ways: One: that because of the Industrial Revolution, we had selfishly stolen atmosphere from other countries and used it to enrich ourselves, Two: that we had to pay reparations for our greed in perpetuity, and Three: that we had to submit to global, unelected, unaccountable thugs. The “climate crisis” ensures that no matter how much money US taxpayers give in reparations, it can never be enough. No one even knows that for 3 decades US taxpayers have been punished by being mandated to give billions yearly for global “climate action,” or that since 1990, 13 government agencies have been tasked with addressing an alleged environmental/climate crisis and with sharing US research internationally. Billions of US tax dollars that would formerly have been spent on education, transportation, health care and crime are instead diverted to “climate.”
The US political class has succeeded in committing the greatest theft in history. They easily stole from US taxpayers for decades for the purpose of creating a $4 billion a day global industry from scratch about something that doesn’t exist, ie CO2 crisis.
Everyone knows that whether US needed to or not, it has lowered its CO2 drastically in recent decades, that Communist China is by far the largest CO2 emitter, and that even if US CO2 went to zero, global CO2 would still be high because of Communist China.
After what the US political class has gotten away with over three decades, weaponizing children–even special needs children–is peanuts for them.
May Greta and all people with emotional challenges and eating disorders enjoy speedy recoveries.
