3/9/12, "Louis C.K. drops correspondents' dinner after conservative outcry," LA Times, Show Tracker
"Louis C.K. has pulled out as host of the Radio and Television Correspondents' Assn. Dinner following conservative complaints about the comedian's past comments about Sarah Palin.
Multiple reports confirm C.K. is no longer scheduled to appear at the June 8 event. There has been no official reason given for his bowing out of the event, however.
The complaints began with Fox News' Greta Van Susteren, who has frequently interviewed Palin on her show. On her website Thursday, she wrote a blog post titled "I refuse to go to the Radio and Television Correspondents Dinner — no one should go." In the post she said, "Another pig ... and a media association has hired the pig, Louis C.K., to be their headliner for the big media dinner? Really? I am not going. I refuse to go. Everyone in the media should join me in this boycott."
The "another pig" comment was in reference to Rush Limbaugh, who was in the hot seat for most of the week for calling a Georgetown law student who testified before Congress about easier access to contraception a "slut" and "prostitute."
Susteren was not amused by C.K.'s previous comments about Palin, some of which she reproduced on her blog (but can't be printed here).
The Radio and Television Correspondents Assn. Dinner is not the same as the White House Correspondents Dinner, which Stephen Colbert notoriously hosted in 2006. Though the president and vice president have sometimes attended this dinner in the past, Obama has not appeared at it since 2009.
Back in December, when C.K.'s booking was announced, Jay McMichael, the RTCA's chair, told Politico, "It gives the dinner a bit of an edge, shakes it up a little, which is what we wanted to do. One of our goals was to make it not so stuffy an evening, as opposed to the more traditional, D.C. black-tie events."
C.K. is currently in production on the third season of his critically acclaimed FX series "Louie."" via Instapundit
