Before Peter Gleick stole documents from the Heartland Institute and distributed them to media outlets in the interest of furthering the 'climate debate,' he had actually been invited to debate climate change with members of the Heartland Institute at their upcoming annual dinner. Heartland offered him $5000 for his favorite charity in lieu of honoraria. Heartland has posted the brief thread of email communications between the two parties.
The following comment described the exchange best:
"Doc Weasel · Top Commenter · Placeholder at TeamDWF
This may seem like a generality, but it reminds me of the Tea Partiers vs. Occupy and conservatives vs. libs all around. The conservatives are polite, straightforward and forthcoming, and the libs are mean-spirited, devious and rude. Maybe it has something to do with having to defend the indefensible making someone grouchy?"
