Obama team bungled and lost car bomber who had passed airport security with no problem. CBS News

"CBS News' Bob Orr said that Emirates Airline "notified the Department of Homeland Security and the rest of the federal government that they got a last minute request for a purchase- a one way purchase in cash - from an individual who wanted to go to Dubai. Those are all red flags.

Administration officials said that Shahzad was placed on the federal no-fly list after authorities identified him, but the addition was too recent for the systems to automatically trigger an alert. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) instead resorted a more conventional "be on the lookout" type of alert to prevent Shahzad from fleeing.

Following is the exchange between the control tower and Emirates flight as it was on the runway and preparing for takeoff with Shahzad, and called back to the gate:"...

CNN Transcript: "Homeland Security correspondent Jeanne Meserve has been up all night working her sources. She's with us in Washington this morning.

JEANNE MESERVE, CNN HOMELAND SECURITY CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Kiran. First, you mentioned earlier a "Wall Street Journal" report about three passengers being taken off the plane. We now have a statement from Emirates Airlines spokesperson which confirms that. It says that the flight was called back by the local authorities prior to departure. Three passengers were removed from the flight.

We have been told by a law enforcement official that, in fact, the JetWay (ph) had been pulled back from that aircraft when authorities became -- contacted the flight and said we need to take some people off of this. And that our suspect in this case very nearly got away."

had passed security without a problem. Only sheer luck of Emirates Airline picking up the phone to call authorities saved America for a moment. Obama's guy Holder couldn't care less about these things, but bumbled some story that his people had gotten the guy before he left the airport:
ABC News: "Shahzad, who had been the subject of a huge manhunt,
  • almost made it out of the country on a Emirates flight to Dubai, with a planned connection onward to Pakistan, according to officials.

"He appeared real close to getting away," one federal official said.

Authorities said that despite the manhunt,

  • his passport had not been flagged and he was able to buy a ticket
  • with cash and clear airport security.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, while refusing to criticize any agency Tuesday morning, said Shahzad was "clearly on the plane and shouldn't have been."...

FBI agents ordered it to return to the gate where Shahzad and two others were taken into custody. The other two were later released, authorities said....

  • Authorities said they found a 9 mm handgun in Shahzad's car and two loaded ammunition magazines....

Shahzad is a naturalized American citizen, who had recently returned

  • from a five-month trip to Pakistan and the city of Peshawar, a known jumping off point
  • for al Qaeda and Taliban recruits."...
But no no no!!! Dont' say it says NYC Mayor Bloomberg! Still hoping it was a Tea Partier, perhaps.
  • ABC News, continuing: "Mayor Bloomberg said that so far there was "no legitimate evidence" the Taliban or al Qaeda were involved. "There's one group of the Taliban that claims credit for everything,
  • including traffic jams," said Bloomberg."...
