They didn't lay a glove on Trump-Howie Carr, Boston Herald

.
8/7/15, "Carr: Donald Trump fends off pretenders in Round One," Boston Herald, Howie Carr

"They didn’t lay a glove on him. Donald Trump is still on top, and it became clearer each moment in last night’s debate that Juan Ellis Bush is running in the wrong party.

Could he have possibly used any more MSNBC dogwhistles? Immigration, Bush said, is a “wedge issue.” (That means, it’s a problem created by Democrats, for Democrats.) Trump is “divisive.” (That means he’s figured out the right wedge issues.) He said he stands by his statements that when illegal aliens, the “valedictorians” as he calls them, commit crimes, they are “acts of love.”

Just ask Kate Steinle’s family.

Bush twice said illegals should be “drivers” of economic recovery. Drivers? Do you ever read the newspapers, Juan? Any newspapers--New Hampshire, Florida, Massachusetts? One of our biggest problems is your valedictorians behind the wheel, usually drunk out of their minds.

This was one of the few times a televised event actually lived up to the hype. Two hours is a long time, too long to disguise your real character, not to mention politics.

For instance, did you know that Gov. John Kasich’s father was a mailman? He only brought it up twice.

A lot of war heroes climbed up onto the stage last night. Kasich, for one--he was a “military reformer” in Congress. Gov. Chris Christie was likewise on the front lines, obtaining warrants to wiretap some of Jeb’s beloved immigrants. As for Juan Ellis Bush, he called the survivors of those killed in his brother’s war--one of the many “catastrophes,” as the Donald put it, perpetrated by Bush 43.

Christie and Rand Paul went at it, two losers with a combined 4 percent in the polls at each other’s throats. Like what is said about academic battles--the tinier the pond, the more vicious the fish.

Only a few dared launch haymakers at Trump. Rand Paul, for one--he was shocked, shocked that the Donald wouldn’t promise not to run third-party next year.

Does anyone recall what ticket Rand’s dad ran for president on back in 1988? (Hint: It wasn’t the Republican party.)

“You’re having a hard time tonight,” Trump finally sniffed at the candidate of the weed wing of the Republican party.

Megyn Kelly, coming out of the closet as a partisan Democrat hack, sneeringly asked Trump about his Twitter descriptions of women as “‘fat pigs,’ ‘dogs,’ ‘slobs’ and ‘disgusting animals.’”

“Only Rosie O’Donnell,”
Trump clarified.

There were firsts: Sen. Marco Rubio may have been the first candidate anywhere to brag about being a House speaker. And he was undoubtedly the first ex-House speaker candidate ever to brag about being poor. I was shocked, but then, I’m from Massachusetts, home of the indicted and unindicted House speakers.

I called it 1) Trump, 2) Cruz, 3) tied: Carson and Rubio, 5) Huckabee, 6) Walker, 7) Bush, 8) Kasich 9) Christie and 10) Paul." via Free Rep.

Big donors order candidates to 'take Trump out' in first debate, Trump can't be seen as winning. Fox News hosts have 'secret plan' to deal with Trump-Rush Limbaugh

.
8/6/15, "Putting the Debate Day Pieces Together: Giant Psyops Underway Against Trump," Rush Limbaugh, (day of 1st GOP debate)

"This is politics. People play tricks. There's gamesmanship all over the place going on. Try this headline: "Big Donors Warn Candidates On Eve Of Debate: 'Take Trump Out.'"

The big money people have told Rubio and Jeb and some of the others that you've got to get rid of Trump tonight. We're tired of this. We're getting worried. This is a big distraction. We're pulling your strings and you take Trump out tonight. That's the headline. It's in the DC Whispers Web page.

"Though the Fox News promos state it is a debate of Republican candidates, most of the network’s on-air personalities have admitted publicly it has turned into the Donald Trump show," and that reality is not sitting well with the power brokers in the back rooms of the GOP, and those power brokers are the money people.

They are the donors and they are the bundlers. They are the fundraisers and they are the people that tell the party when to jump, when to sit, when to talk, when to stand mute and so forth, and they are getting worried that Trump is co-opting their grand scheme to get control of the United States Treasury, which is what I think the purpose of elections has become these days....

In both parties, I think it's a desire to be in charge of the money.  And that's clearly the purpose of the donors.  I mean, the donors donate because they want favorable policy for their businesses, their bottom lines, or what have you. This cronyism didn't start with Obama but...it's really now dug its tentacles deeply into our government with Obama. It's seen as something that a lot of people would like to deepen and enrich. So the money people call the shots, apparently, in the Republican Party. And the word's gone out, they've made it clear to these campaign consultants and the political operatives that Trump cannot be allowed to win the debate tonight. Trump cannot be seen as winning the debate tonight
.
In fact, according to the DC Whispers: "Some are said to have taken an even more aggressive stance by indicating Trump’s Republican rivals are to 'take him out'," tonight. And by "take him out," you know what it means. It means humiliate him, embarrass him, dwarf him, whatever, make it impossible for Trump to continue beyond tonight. Now, if I'm one of these Republicans and I got these big money donors calling me up and commanding me and ordering me to take him out, I'd say, "Are you going to tell me how to do this?  What do you think we've been trying to do here for the last three or four weeks or two months?  You want to tell me how to do this?" I always love it, the people behind the scenes never go on stage, never really get in the arena, telling everybody in it what to do and how to do it. "You take Trump out!"

The point is, they want Trump's credibility... His personal whatever it is that's attracting voters, they want it damaged tonight because that indicates it's proof positive that Trump is not part of the cabal that is running the Republican Party.

Now, the Jeb Bush apology, right here in The Politico magazine. Glenn Thrush has a piece, "How Jeb and the GOP Got Trumped." But that headline doesn't tell you at all what's in this story. Second page paragraph, Jeb Bush talking to some operatives.

"Seriously, what's this guy's problem?" He's talking about Trump. "'Seriously, what's this guy's problem?' Bush reportedly told the donor, adding that he thought Trump was 'a buffoon,' a 'clown' and an 'asshole.'...

"'Seriously, what's this guy's problem?' he asked one party donor he ran into recently according to accounts provided by several sources close to Bush -- and he went on to describe the publicity seeking real estate developer now surging in public polls far ahead of Bush and all the 15 others in the Republican field as 'a buffoon,' 'clown' and 'a--hole.'"...Those three insults are quoted, attributed to Jeb Bush talking to a donor about Trump....

Now, what about civility, folks?

We keep hearing that the Republican Party must be civil, that we can't get into the gutter like this....The moderates don't like hearing it! When the moderates hear talk like that and the independents and they hear talk like that, they just run right back to the Democrat Party, right? I mean, we will not talk that way about Obama. We don't have a Republican calling him a buffoon, and I've not heard of Republicans calling him a clown, and certainly I haven't heard any Republican calling him a butt-hole.

But Jeb Bush is quoted in The Politico as talking about and describing Trump that way....

We are told that this hurts the image and damages the brand and this kind of talk is not helpful. Meanwhile, McCain can run around and talk about people that support Trump in Arizona, call them "crazies," and that's okay. And now we've got Jeb in The Politico characterizing Trump this way, and I was just wondering: "What about the civility? That's not civil. That's not polite. That's not compromise.

"That's not showing we can govern. That's not reaching across the aisle. It's certainly not bipartisan....That's coarse, it's uncivil, it's beneath us." ...So I wonder if some of the moralists in our media will suggest that Jeb should apologize. 'Cause this is simply...not what conservatism is and this is not who conservatives are and so forth.

Yes, I'm ladling it on here a little thick, folks, but I'm doing so on purpose.

Sometimes you have to to make a point. So big donors telling GOP front-runners:

Get rid of Trump. Take Trump out tonight. The big money is getting nervous. The Politico story is about "How the GOP Got Trumped." I mean, that's their Politico headline, and they detail Jeb's theories and philosophies when Trump came up on the scene and popped up and started to run....

"Just shut up. Don't say a word! Don't react to it." That was the advice he got, and that was what his instincts were. "Don't react to it. It's gonna be short-lived. Trump's gonna step in it. He's gonna say something embarrassing." None of that's happened.

All that's happened is Trump's popularity continued to grow. By the way, something else people having noticing. In the last week, all of a sudden Trump has been described in ways that were not used, terms not used to describe him over a week ago....

He has advanced, he's put out...It's in his book, but he has released his flat tax plan. And it's serious. That's another...He released a flat tax plan. And That's another thing punditry and some media people are now beginning to describe Trump as "serious," meaning you can't dismiss him.

I've read so far five mea culpa pieces, different Drive-Bys, apologize. The most recent was Chris Cillizza, the Washington Post (paraphrasing): "I didn't think Trump was gonna go anywhere, I knew Trump was gonna bomb out. I didn't know Trump was serious. I've gotta take it all back. I apologize! I was wrong." Five of these in the past few days. Media people who predicted Trump was a flash in the pan, wasn't gonna last, was gonna embarrass himself, wasn't even serious about it, are now beginning to ask: Can this guy win?

Nervously, they're beginning to ask: Can this guy win?...

Of the candidates, ladies and gentlemen, who are said to have been given the biggest anti-Trump marching orders is Marco Rubio. Apparently big donors have gone to Rubio with the greatest sense of urgency and have told Rubio... It's not just Rubio, by the way, that the big donors have approached. But this particular story says that the candidates were said to have been given their anti-Trump marching orders last night....

Could it be that this is the first of what will be many attempts to get Trump to blow his top tonight?...What if this is a strategically placed insult, even before the debate begins, designed to get Trump ticked off even before it starts?

If the big money people behind the Republican Party are scared and they want Trump taken out, they may figure that the best way to do it is to have him blow his stack and demonstrate whatever they think that would demonstrate -- a lack of presidential temperament or take your pick. Anyway, just guessing. I'm trying to put these pieces all together for you....

Okay, there's no question now that there's a psychological operation underway aimed at The Donald....It's there for anybody to see, but it takes me to put the pieces together, to read between the lines, to read the stitches on the fastball. The Mediaite website: "Fox Debate Hosts Already Have a Secret Plan to Deal with Donald Trump."  However, Mediaite is linking to a Politico story, the second Politico story of note of the day.

The first Politico story is actually from The Politico magazine. This is where Jeb Bush is quoted as insulting Trump as a "clown," a "buffoon," and a "[butt]hole."  Now The Politico has a story claiming that the Fox debate hosts -- which are Megyn Kelly, Bret Baier and Chris Wallace -- have a secret plan to deal with Trump. (laughing) How secret can it be? I just love this. It's a secret plan that we all know about....

Anyway, it does seem like a psych-ops operation, and it's from The Politico. Let me read to you a couple things from the article. "In an interview with Politico, Fox News hosts Bret Baier, Megyn Kelly, and Chris Wallace revealed they already have a plan if Donald Trump refuses to obey the rules of Thursday night’s Republican presidential debate."

If Trump "refuses to obey the rules"? Only Trump runs the risk or poses the risk of not obeying the rules?...

That means that everybody's on the lout now for Trump not to play by the rules....

Just telling you. They "already have a secret plan if Donald Trump refuses to obey the rules." What if somebody else refuses to obey the rules.

Do they have a secret plan to deal with that?...

Is Trump gonna be the only one that they use force to keep him in line? We just have to see. Bret Baier is quoted in The Politico piece: "Listen, he’s going to be treated like everybody else. We’re going to treat every candidate the same....Are we thinking about different scenarios? Sure. Our job is to make sure everybody plays by the rules."...

And if they're having trouble, the people behind the scenes, the producers and directors, are gonna be all over 'em in the IFB, their ear pieces, urging them to go here, go there, shut up, make sure Trump doesn't... Whatever they gonna say. We'll never hear it.

Megyn Kelly said that they had a plan if Trump refused to stop talking. "We have plan. We're not gonna share it with you," she said. But if Trump doesn't stop talking, they have a plan. What if Jeb doesn't stop talking?...Well, what can they do if Trump doesn't shut up? Well, they could shut off his mike, but that won't work....They'd have to shut off everybody's mike....

Oh, one other thing. Not a big deal. As you know, we have a pretty established conservative media out there now. I mean, let's look at 'em. We've got Red State, we've got Power Line, we've got Hot Air, we have Ace of Spades -- I mean, look, I don't want to leave any of them out....They're all over the place. We got National Review, National Review Online, and who does the GOP go to? Who does the GOP grant access to?  Politico.

Now, there's gotta be a reason for that. What do you think it is? Why is Jeb telling all this super-secret stuff about what he thinks of Trump to The Politico?  The Politico magazine. I can answer it....I'm just bringing it up here as a talking point. Why didn't Jeb tell this to a National Review Online reporter?  I mean, National Review Online is pretty tight with the Republican establishment. I mean, they're not thought of in the same vein by the establishment as talk radio is. They're considered buttoned down, coat and tie, loyal. Why not go to them?

Or, take your pick...there's any number of other credible news and commentary websites, magazines, organizations. But the GOP always goes to Politico. They leak everything to Politico or they grant access, non-leak access to Politico.  And I think it says a lot.  I think it says that the GOP still considers its own supportive media to be fringe, and Politico and all the others as the genuine mainstream.  But worse than that, I think it says that the GOP establishment types really think that they're not gonna win or get their message out unless they do it in the mainstream media.  And who knows.  They may be right.  But clearly I think they think this." US nuclear negotiator unfazed that Iranian Islamist men wouldn't shake hands with women--says she's seen the same behavior back in the US in Baltimore's large Orthodox Jewish community-BBC

.
Iranian men refusing to shake hands with women in observance of Islamic law was nothing new to an American nuclear negotiator who says the same practice is common in Baltimore's Orthodox Jewish community.

8/6/15, "Iran negotiations: The women who made the Iran nuclear deal happen," BBC,

Wendy Sherman, left

"President Barack Obama continues to push for Congress to sign off on a nuclear deal with Iran. But the historic negotiation was brokered with the help of an unprecedented number of female diplomats.

When an agreement is struck among parties, it is standard practice to "shake on it" in order to seal the deal.

But when a historic nuclear accord was reached in Vienna, Austria, on 14 July between Iran and the P5+1, the Iranian negotiators could not shake the hands of their female interlocutors due to the country's strict religious customs.

Three Western women - two European and one American - were central to a comprehensive deal reached to curb Iran's nuclear programme. Leading the political side of the negotiations was Federica Mogherini, the European Union's chief diplomat and former Italian foreign minister....

At the table for the Americans was Wendy Sherman, her country's first female undersecretary of political affairs and a veteran of nuclear negotiations.
She was one of the chief architects of the Clinton administration's North Korea nuclear policy and had taken the lead on the US team's nuclear talks with Iran since 2011.
Having three women as senior negotiators in the Iran talks was unprecedented. "Even inside the European Union it's not that often it happens that there are more women sitting at the table than men," Ms Mogherini told the BBC.

"So it was somehow new, but it's my personal feeling that it was helpful."

She says when the men veered off course and went on historical tangents or started to get tangled into debates about who gave more, the women walked them back to the present. "The fact of having many women at the table in key positions helped us be concrete and pragmatic the whole way."

But the Islamic Republic of Iran has strict rules about interactions between men and women - customs that diplomats follow regardless of whether or not they're in the country.

"We couldn't shake hands, couldn't touch in any way at all," Sherman said.

But this practice was not uncommon to her.

"I grew up in Baltimore where there's a large Orthodox Jewish community where the same is true, but I think we all understood how to speak to each other without shaking hands and understanding each other to the extent that we got an agreement."

And she says being a woman was not a barrier in her progress in the negotiating room....Over the course of the years she got to know her Iranian counterparts rather well and they would often share videos and stories of their families...
"Some of the teams were all men and I hope that will change," she said. Asked for more details she remained a diplomat. "They know who they are, they know that they've heard from me and that they need to change their act."...The women who brought the nuclear deal to fruition have their work cut out for them - can they put it into motion?" Conservative Treehouse supports Donald Trump. Destroying the Republican Establishment machine is more important than anything else. If Trump doesn't do it, we've lost nothing. We're sick of being brutalized by Republican liars

.
6/2014, New expenses forced on already stretched US taxpayers

8/5/15, "Why I Support Donald Trump – Part 2," The Conservative Treehouse, sundance

"People are having difficulty trying to figure out why I’m supporting Donald Trump with such severity.  So let me explain.

I’ve already explained the specifics of what is ahead and how ONLY JEB BUSH will win the primary in – PART ONE--“The Tripwires”. And I’ve expanded it for further explanation--HERE--and--HERE.

Regardless of how much you support a “NON-JEB” if you, as a conservative, vote for Walker, Perry, Cruz, Jindal, Rubio et al you will get JEB BUSH out of the GOPe machine.

Expecting a different outcome is like standing at that soda machine that gives you diet ginger ale regardless of which button you push....Putting your money in the same GOP machine over and over, only leaves you standing there with...yet another Jeb Bush.

Stop being a co-dependent, and don’t worry about walking to a different, perhaps unfamiliar, vending machine. Also, don’t worry about expressing an opinion that you don’t trust Trump; or Trump doesn’t pass your litmus test of (fill in the blank). Neither are the issue.

I have been transparent with my personal support for Donald Trump, and the specific reason for it.

I want the GOPe machine torn down, dispatched to earth orbit, and nuked...regardless of consequence, because I’m sick of having to be brutalized and used by Republican liars hiding within it. Period.

Face of GOP E, Haley Barbour
For me, the elimination of the GOPe machine is ultimately more valuable than anything else.

Walker, Bush, Rubio, Kasich, Perry, Christie, Huckabee et al will never destroy the GOPe machine, they themselves are part of the apparatus.

Rand Paul and Ted Cruz have shown an inability and unwillingness to do it. Sorry to deliver the bitter pill of reference, but see VA, KY and MS primary 2014 – they supported the CoC McConnell/Boehner team. They lost me with their self-serving refusal to charge, when charging mattered most.

Carson, Fiorina and Jindal, all good people, are dependent on $$$ and therefore unable to walk into the office and destroy the people who purchased it for them.

Pataki, Gilmore, Graham or other, are all part of the problem – not the solution. So who does that leave me with?
.........
Trump.
........
I want the Republican ‘Big Government’ Party, as it is currently constructed, destroyed. DESTROYED. I want it replaced with America First Conservatism. However, that said, I am clear-eyed that Trump is quite possibly not the guy to rebuild. And that’s OK.

I supported Scott Brown not to support Scott Brown, but to stop Obamacare. I was clear-eyed that a Massachusetts Republican was not a deeply committed strain of constitutional conservatism (see Mitt Romney “severely conservative”).

The Scott Brown effort failed, but the effort was a valid fight. Scott Brown was a tool, a means to an end. The reason it failed was because the Democrats changed the rules (see Harry Reid and “reconciliation” in the Senate) after the loss.

Like Scott Brown, we need to use Trump to destroy the GOP.  The effort might not succeed, but what is there to lose. They support:

¹Comprehensive immigration reform to include amnesty, ²
ObamaCare and ³
Common Core
.
Just like pushing Scott Brown in January 2010, again, it’s another worthy endeavor. Once that’s done, and that also means phase 2 ridding the infection that is John Boehner and Mitch McConnell ideologues, then maybe we can rebuild an actual 2nd party – because right now there’s only one party, the uniparty of the GOP/DEM.

We have the most magnificent national classic car ever built – now in need of restoration."...

The act did many things to combat human trafficking worldwide--including providing assistance to foreign governments to combat abuse and increasing penalties for trafficking crimes. A small portion of the bill concerned added protections for unaccompanied children crossing the U.S. border. Specifically, kids from noncontiguous countries would be transferred to the Health and Human Services Department for care and processing. HHS would then be authorized to appoint advocates for the children and could work to unite the kids with families or place them in foster care."...

Hundreds of victims of pedophile priests in Milwaukee Catholic Archdiocese to receive $21 million settlement. Cardinal Dolan now of NY was Milwaukee Archbishop from 2002-2009- NY Times

.
Files show NY's Cardinal Dolan as Archbishop of Milwaukee archdioscese from 2002-2009 sought to protect Vatican funds from sexual abuse payouts and to persuade pedophile priests to leave voluntarily in exchange for expected stipends and benefits. NY Times, 7/1/2013

-------------------------------------

8/4/15, "330 to Share $21 Million in Abuse Settlement With Milwaukee Archdiocese," NY Times, Mitch Smith

"Leaders of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee said Tuesday that they had reached a $21 million settlement with hundreds of victims of sexual abuse by clergy members, though the agreement is still subject to approval by a federal judge.

The archdiocese, which has been entangled in bankruptcy proceedings since 2011, reached the deal after years of sometimes bitter negotiations. Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki said the settlement, if approved by the court, would end the bankruptcy case.

“Today, we turn the page on a terrible part of our history and we embark on a new road lined with hope, forgiveness and love,” Archbishop Listecki said in a statement.

Mike Finnegan, a lawyer whose Minnesota law firm represents most of the victims, said the settlement amount should have been higher and criticized the archdiocese’s legal tactics. The settlement was “not a victory for survivors,” he said, but was better than the alternatives likely in bankruptcy court.

“This archdiocese has fought more aggressively than any other in the country” facing sexual abuse claims, Mr. Finnegan said.

The $21 million will be shared among 330 abuse survivors, the archdiocese said. Payment amounts will vary, with a court-appointed administrator determining how much each person receives. The settlement also calls for a $500,000 therapy fund for abuse survivors.

The sexual abuse allegations against Wisconsin clergy are among many across the country that have led to large settlements and criticism of the Catholic Church. The San Diego diocese reached a settlement of nearly $200 million with 144 people in 2007. The diocese in Wilmington, Del., settled for $77 million with 146 abuse victims in 2011.

The Milwaukee archdiocese said its agreement with the victims would be detailed in court filings later this month, and likely reviewed by a judge in November. Mr. Finnegan said he expects the settlement to be approved.

Archbishop Listecki said the possibility of exiting bankruptcy court after more than four years was a welcome development, and he offered conciliatory words for the victims in his statement.

“This settlement represents for us in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee a new Pentecost, a day of rebirth that renews our focus on word, worship and service,” the archbishop said. “We do so remembering those who have been harmed; keeping them in our prayers; supporting them through therapy and healing; promising never to forget the evil that has been done; and working diligently to ensure this never happens again.”"

Dolan Sought to Protect Church Assets, Files show,

Reuters image from 2014 UK Daily Mail article, caption: "Cardinal Dolan, pictured here with Barack Obama in New York in 2012, told American television that Pope Francis wants church leaders to 'look into same sex unions and see the reasons that have driven them'"
    ===============================

7/1/2013, "Dolan Sought to Protect Church Assets, Files Show," NY Times, Laurie Goodstein

"Files released by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee on Monday reveal that in 2007, Cardinal Timothy F. Dolan, then the archbishop there, requested permission from the Vatican to move nearly $57 million into a cemetery trust fund to protect the assets from victims of clergy sexual abuse who were demanding compensation.

Cardinal Dolan, now the archbishop of New York, has emphatically denied seeking to shield church funds as the archbishop of Milwaukee from 2002 to 2009. He reiterated in a statement Monday that these were “old and discredited attacks.”

However, the files contain a 2007 letter to the Vatican in which he explains that by transferring the assets, “I foresee an improved protection of these funds from any legal claim and liability.” The Vatican approved the request in five weeks, the files show.

The release of more than 6,000 pages of documents on Monday was hailed by victims and their advocates as a vindication and a historic step toward transparency and accountability. They were well aware that the archives would bring unusually intense scrutiny to the country's most high-profile prelate, Cardinal Dolan, who as president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the archbishop of New York has sought to help the church turn the corner on the era of scandal.

Cardinal Dolan has been regarded by many Catholics as part of the solution. In public appearances, he has expressed personal outrage at the harm done to children, apologized profusely and pledged to help the church and the victims heal.

But the documents lift the curtain on his role as a workaday church functionary concerned with safeguarding assets, persuading abusive priests to leave voluntarily in exchange for continued stipends and benefits, and complying with Rome’s sluggish canonical procedures for dismissing uncooperative priests who he had long concluded were remorseless and a serious risk to children.

In one case, the Vatican took five years to remove a convicted sex offender from the priesthood.

“As victims organize and become more public, the potential for true scandal is very real,” he wrote in such a request in 2003 to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the head of the Vatican office charged with handling abuse cases until he became Pope Benedict XVI in 2005.

Victims on Monday called for a federal investigation into the actions of Cardinal Dolan and his predecessors, but the cardinal sought to deflect criticism by saying in a statement Monday that he welcomed the release of the documents.

The current archbishop of Milwaukee, Jerome E. Listecki, had announced his decision to release the documents in April, one day before a judicial hearing. Lawyers for abuse victims had asked a judge to compel their release.

Archbishop Listecki released a letter last week warning Catholics in his archdiocese that the documents could shake their faith, and trying to explain the actions of church leaders while offering apologies to victims.

“Prepare to be shocked,” he wrote. “There are some graphic descriptions about the behavior of some of these priest offenders.” The files include documents from the personnel files of 42 clergy offenders with “substantiated” allegations, going back 80 years.

(The names and identifying features of victims were redacted.)

Also included are the legal depositions of Cardinal Dolan and another former Milwaukee archbishop, Rembert Weakland, and a retired auxiliary bishop, Richard J. Sklba.

Milwaukee harbored some of the nation’s most notorious priest pedophiles, including the Rev. Lawrence Murphy, whom a church therapist assessed as having molested as many as 200 boys during his two and a half decades teaching and leading St. John’s School for the Deaf in St. Francis, Wis., and Sigfried Widera, who faced 42 counts of child abuse in Wisconsin and California. Father Murphy died in 1998, and Father Widera committed suicide in Mexico in 2003.

In his letter, Archbishop Listecki said the documents showed that 22 priests were “reassigned to parish work after concerns about their behavior were known to the archdiocese,” and that 8 of those “reoffended after being reassigned.”

Advocates for abuse victims objected that the archdiocese did not release the files of many others accused of abuse, including priests, deacons, nuns, schoolteachers and choir directors. The files do not include any known priest offenders who were members of religious orders (like the Capuchins or Jesuits) who served in the Milwaukee Archdiocese.

“It’s still less than a complete disclosure, but it’s a giant step in the right direction,” said Jeff Anderson, a lawyer for many of the alleged victims. The documents were posted on both his Web site and the archdiocese’s, but they were arranged differently to buttress each argument.

Cardinal Dolan was deposed about his handling of abuse cases and the assets of the archdiocese in February, just before he left for Rome for the conclave to elect a new pope. The release of the documents is the byproduct of a bitter standoff in bankruptcy court between the Milwaukee Archdiocese and 575 men and women who have filed claims against it alleging that priests or other church employees had sexually abused them.

The archdiocese filed for bankruptcy in 2011, saying it was the best way to compensate the victims and resolve the controversy. It became the eighth Catholic diocese in the United States to do so. Since then, negotiations between the two sides in Milwaukee have broken down: the church has argued that about 400 of the 575 cases are invalid, while lawyers for the victims have accused the church of hiding assets.

In January, the archdiocese said it had spent about $9 million in legal and other fees in the bankruptcy process and was going broke. In 2007, the year Cardinal Dolan asked to transfer the funds, the Wisconsin Supreme Court issued a decision that in effect lifted an unusual law that had long shielded the church from sexual abuse lawsuits. When he was later accused of trying to shield church funds, Cardinal Dolan said on his blog in New York that it was “malarkey” and “groundless gossip.” Archbishop Listecki and former Auxiliary Bishop Sklba invoked a theme that many other church officials have used in the past to explain their conduct: that their missteps reflected a broader lack of awareness about child sexual abuse in society.

Archbishop Listecki wrote that he did not want to make excuses, but that church officials had relied on the advice of doctors and therapists who were “seemingly more concerned about ‘Father’ than about the children.” He said the documents would reveal “the progression and evolution of thinking on this topic.”

However, the Rev. James Connell, a priest in the Milwaukee Archdiocese who helped to form a group called Catholic Whistleblowers, said in an interview that he did not find this claim credible.

“I was in high school in the 1950s,” he said, “and I learned about statutory rape in high school. An adult having sexual activity with a minor is a crime. We knew about it then, so you can’t claim that social thought changed.”"

    "Correction: July 3, 2013

An article on Tuesday about more than 6,000 pages of documents released by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee misstated the surname of a Milwaukee priest who helped to form the group Catholic Whistleblowers. He is James Connell, not O’Connell."

Europe already profiting from new US climate plan, stock prices rose on wind companies such as Vestas-EU Observer. (US taxpayer funded tax credits for wind companies were recently extended. US political class funds global parasites with US taxpayer dollars it denies to the poor and needy.)

Europe hopes for US taxpayer cash
"European wind and solar industries have welcomed US President Barack Obama’s new climate plan while European politicians see Washington’s move as a positive signal ahead of UN climate talks in Paris.

"We have a moral obligation to leave our children a planet that’s not polluted or damaged", said Obama on Monday (3 August).

The Clean Power Plan establishes for the first time national standards for limiting carbon pollution from American power plants and aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 32 percent from 2005 levels by 2030.

It also says that renewables should account for 28 percent of US energy consumption by 2030.

The plan is seen as an attempt by Obama to secure his legacy and fulfill election promises during his final months in office.

It is also likely to boost the currently stalled international climate talks when negotiators gather for talks in Paris in December.

"The CleanPowerPlan gives further momentum to #COP21, shows US commitment to underpin its international climate pledge with domestic action", EU energy commissioner Miguel Arias Canete tweeted.

He called the plan "a positive step forward" which "can boost clean energy and speed up the low-carbon transformation". Meanwhile shares in wind energy companies – such as Vestas Wind Systems
    – rose on the announcement.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon referred to Obama’s “visionary leadership” while German environment minister Barbara Hendricks said the plan was an "important signal" for the Paris talks.

Danish energy minister Lars Christian Lilleholt said the plan might "open new export opportunities for Danish companies".

But the US’ shift to a greener future is not expected to be without a political fight which may impact next years' presidential election.

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton backed the plan, saying that if elected she will defend it against "Republican doubters and defeatists."

But the Republicans are largely opposing it and have called it “a war on coal” and vowed to mount legal challenges against it.

Currently more than one third of the US’ electricity supply comes from coal-fired plants and opponents of the Obama plan claim their closure will result in a hike in consumers’ electricity bills.

Obama, for his part, says the plan will save the average American nearly $85 on their annual energy bill in 2030.

Each state is to be responsible for cutting its emissions and should draw up a plan by 2018 on how to do it.

Some state governors have already rebelled and are likely to join a legal action against the plan, meaning it could end up in the Supreme Court.

States such as West Virginia and Wyoming, with economies reliant on coal mining or cheap electricity from coal-fired power plants, are leading the action.

“We think this regulation is terrible for the consumers of the state of West Virginia.

It’s going to lead to reduced jobs, higher electricity rates, and really will put stress on the reliability of the power grid. The worst part of this proposal is that it’s flatly illegal under the Clean Air Act and the Constitution, and we intend to challenge it vigorously,” West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said.

Renewable sources currently account for only 5 percent of US electricity compared with 37 percent from coal, 31 percent from natural gas and 19 percent from nuclear power."

Danish manufacturer Vestas ramped up in anticipation of more US taxpayer dollars:

6/30/15, "Vestas racking up big orders for new U.S. wind farms," Denver Business Journal, Cathy Proctor

"Vestas Wind Systems is racking up more orders from customers eager to put the Danish manufacturer’s wind turbines to work across the United States.

In the last week, Vestas has announced orders for more than 250 of its wind turbines for U.S. wind farms. And Vestas’ factories in Colorado will be building components for those wind farms, according to a company spokesman.

Vestas employs nearly 3,000 people in the state and has four factories: a towers factory in Pueblo, a nacelles factory and a blade factory in Brighton and another blade plant in Windsor.

The wind industry has been revving lately in the United States, following an extension of the federal wind Production Tax Credit, worth $23 for every megawatt-hour of power produced for 10 years. New wind farms where at least 5 percent of the budget was spent in 2014 will qualify for the credit.

Vestas on Tuesday announced it had locked in an order from SunEdison for 83 of its V117-3.3 megawatt wind turbines, capable of delivering 274 megawatts of power. The turbines are destined for a Texas wind farm and expected to be commissioned in the first half of 2016, according to Vestas.

Vestas said the Texas wind farm order is the company’s seventh project with SunEdison.

Including turbines previously purchased from Vestas, the SunEdison wind farm in Texas will be capable of producing 300 megawatts of power, Vestas said.

It’s the first time that Vestas’ new 3-megawatt turbines will be deployed in Texas, Vestas said.

“Our 3 MW turbine platform is proving its versatility across a variety of North American wind regimes, and we are starting to see much broader deployment across the wind belt,” said Chris Brown, Vestas Portland-based president of the U.S. and Canadian sales and service division.

“This project will be its first deployment in the important Texas market, where the combination of a robust design, outstanding grid support and a large rotor make this turbine the best choice to minimize the cost of energy throughout the life of the project,” Brown said.
“We’re very happy to add this latest agreement to our growing strategic relationship with SunEdison," he added.

But SunEdison didn’t stop with the Texas wind turbine order. SunEdison also on Tuesday finalized an order for 47 of Vestas’ V112-3.3 megawatt turbines, capable of pumping out 155 megawatts of electricity, for its Bingham wind farm in Maine, according to a second announcement from Vestas on Tuesday.

The turbines destined for the Maine wind farm also are expected to be commissioned in the first half of 2016, Vestas said Tuesday.

Vestas also on Tuesday announced an order for 54 of its V110-2.0 megawatt turbines for an undisclosed customer at an undisclosed site in the U.S.

Last week, on June 25, Vestas announced it also had received an order from EDF Renewable Energy for 75 of its V100-2.0 megawatt turbines, which are destined for the Salt Fork wind farm in Texas. The wind turbines collectively are capable of producing up to 150 megawatts of power. Commissioning is expected in the first half of 2016.
The order for the Salt Ford wind farm is the first one EDF placed with Vestas related to master-supply contract the two companies signed in December 2014 for up to 1,000 megawatts worth of wind turbines."...
