"GOP must distance itself from Bush administration players to start being successful again." Erickson, RedState

.
To Rupert Murdoch: If you want to hang on, let go. The Bush crowd hides behind Rupert Murdoch's skirts on Fox News and takes shots at anyone who might rescue this country from the misery they caused.

5/2/13, "Rush Limbaugh and the Need for Spine," Erick Erickson, RedState.com

"The Politico is reporting (read: let’s wait for a second source to confirm it) that the RNC, well, “[t]he Republican National Committee has chosen a Karl Rove-linked voter data project called Liberty Works to help it compete with Democrats in the digital arena. Liberty Works will team up with Data Trust, whose chairman of the board is former RNC Chairman Mike Duncan, committee spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski confirmed to Politico.”

This is deeply troubling, if accurate, because I maintain the GOP must distance itself from the Bush administration players to start being successful again. Further, for all of Karl Rove’s fine attributes, he is also largely a direct mail guy who learned at the foot of Lee Atwater and never really learned anything after Atwater passed. I’m just not sure, after the 2012 race, that this is a wise investment. Direct mail guys believe the data is the value and what Team Obama discovered is that the tools to analyze the data are the value.

This concerns me. As a friend said on twitter yesterday, the GOP motto for fixing itself seems to be “incest is best.”

And this whole thing, excepting the incest crack, gets me to Rush Limbaugh.

I keep hearing people say Rush Limbaugh is a detriment to the Republican Party, holding it back, and if we cannot move beyond him we will never win again. Frank Luntz and S. E. Cupp both have taken after Limbaugh lately and they are not alone.

The way I see it, Rush Limbaugh is a fighter. The guys who have taken to actually fighting on values like Rush does, i.e. Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and Rand Paul have been putting all the points on the board.

They’re keeping the fight against Obamacare alive just as the GOP is trying to cave and public animosity for the law grows. But for those three, we’d have gun control legislation. On the House side, the Republican Fight Club of Congressmen Amash, Bridenstine, Broun, Gohmert, Huelskamp, Jones, Massie, Pearce, Salmon, and Yoho have been the only ones leading the fight to stop the Republicans from expanding government at a time distrust of government is a commonly held sentiment.

Limbaugh gives voice to them and those who listen to Limbaugh encourage them. The guys with the spine are the ones we should be supporting and they are the ones Rush Limbaugh supports. But there is something else, which goes full circle to Karl Rove controlling the data.

If you disagree with Rush Limbaugh, he may note that disagreement on the air. You might get some angry constituents calling your office. But that’s it. He’ll be right, you’ll be wrong, but life will go on.

If you disagree with the other side of the GOP, though, they’ll plant stories about you in the New York Times, make sure the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal attacks you, threaten donors and demand they withhold money from you, take away your committee positions, shut down all your legislative initiatives, etc. That’s why the GOP should not put data in Karl Rove’s hands.

The establishment has a worse track record on candidates that those who’d side with Rush Limbaugh. They have an even worse track record on policy (how’d steel tariffs in Pennsylvania work out?). And if you do not tow their line that often loses, they will punish you in ways Rush Limbaugh never would or even could.

But these guys would have you believe it is Rush Limbaugh on the outside, and Senators Cruz, Lee, and Paul and Congressmen Amash, Bridenstine, Broun, Gohmert, Huelskamp, Jones, Massie, Pearce, Salmon, and Yoho who are the ones holding us back. Only among Washington Republicans is that fantasy a reality.

I think the RNC is making a big mistake. The one hope is that conservative super PACs will respond in kind or Karl Rove and the RNC can make clear now that they will not treat the data and the tools to analyze the data as treasure, denying it to the rest of the Republican coalition they just happen to disagree with or cannot control." via Lucianne

==============================

Ed. note: I've listened to Rush Limbaugh since 1989. He gives voice to the grassroots, and wisdom to anyone else who wants to listen. On the other hand, I've heard him side with the establishment when it mattered most. He adores Karl Rove. The Bush crowd without blinking destroyed this country, lifetimes of work and sacrifice, handed the country over to the radical left, and haven't felt badly about it for one second. Some of them belong in jail. They have no feeling for this country whatsoever, are quite happy Obama is in power (because it shuts up the grassroots), and would be fine being in the minority forever. As long as Fox News and Rupert Murdoch are around, the criminal Bush crowd will be around.

GM profits fall 14% in 1Q 2013, sales up in China with hot seller Cadillac XTS full size sedan, GM still owes US taxpayers $20 billion from 2009 bailout-AP

.
"So far, the government has recovered around $30.4 billion of its $49.5 billion bailout, and plans to sell its remaining share. But those shares would have to sell for around $79 each — more than double GM’s current stock price — for taxpayers to break even."

5/2/13, "GM profit falls 14 pct to $865 million in 1Q on lower earnings in N.A.; Europe loss narrows," AP via Washington Post

"General Motors’ net income fell 14 percent in the first quarter, as it earned less money in North America while preparing to launch a redesigned version of its best-selling vehicle, the Silverado pickup.

GM earned $865 million, or 58 cents per share, down from $1 billion, or 60 cents per share, in the January-March period a year ago. But excluding one-time items, GM’s earnings of 67 cents per share topped analysts’ forecast for 54 cents, according to FactSet.

Revenue also topped Wall Street’s expectations, and the company lost less money in Europe than a year ago.

GM’s shares rose 5 percent to $31.68 in morning trading. At one point, they hit $31.75, the highest level since July 2011. They’re up 8 percent since the beginning of this year.

Worldwide sales rose 3.6 percent to more than 2.3 million. GM had record sales in China, its biggest market. And the automaker boosted its share of the North American market as sales in the U.S. rose 9 percent.

GM’s earnings in North America fell 12.5 percent from a year ago to $1.4 billion. Chief Financial Officer Dan Ammann said GM shipped fewer pickup trucks ahead of the launch of its newly redesigned Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickups. Those go on sale in a few weeks. Auto companies book profits on a vehicle when it leaves the factory.

GM’s report echoed Chrysler Group’s earlier this week. Chrysler also reduced vehicle shipments ahead of the launch of the new Jeep Cherokee, and its earnings tumbled 65 percent to $166 billion.

GM sold a record 816,373 vehicles in China, up 10 percent from the first quarter a year ago. Among the hot sellers was the Cadillac XTS full-size sedan, which went on sale in China in February.

Chinese buyers snapped up more than 2,000 XTS sedans in March alone, despite their steep starting price of $56,000.

Profits in GM’s international operations, which includes China, fell 5 percent to $495 million. Ammann said gains in China were offset by weakness in other regions, including India.

The XTS and smaller ATS also gave GM a boost in the U.S., where GM sold 664,964 cars and trucks in the quarter and outpaced the industry’s gain of 6 percent. U.S. Cadillac sales jumped 38 percent while Buick sales were up 27.5 percent thanks to the new Verano small car and Encore small utility.

Sales of the Silverado rose 22 percent in the U.S., boosted by an increase in home building and other construction....

GM’s revenue fell 2.3 percent to $36.9 billion in the first quarter. One-time items included a charge for currency devaluation in Venezuela.

Detroit-based GM is still 16-percent owned by the U.S. government, a legacy of the U.S. Treasury’s bailout of GM in 2009. So far, the government has recovered around $30.4 billion of its $49.5 billion bailout, and plans to sell its remaining share. But those shares would have to sell for around $79 each — more than double GM’s current stock price — for taxpayers to break even."

Bolivia President Evo Morales kicks out corrupt US program USAID. Too bad the $52 million US taxpayer dollars diverted to cronies in Bolivia weren't spent on the suffering in the US

.
5/1/13, "US protests against Bolivia's decision to expel USAID," BBC

"The US has expressed regret at Bolivia's decision to expel America's development agency, rejecting allegations made by President Evo Morales as "baseless".

A US official said the move against the US Agency for International Development (USAID) "harms the Bolivian people".

In a May Day address, Mr Morales accused USAID of seeking to "conspire against" Bolivia.

He linked the expulsion to a recent comment by the US secretary of state. But US state department spokesman Patrick Ventrell defended USAID's work in Bolivia.

"We think the programmes have been positive for the Bolivian people, and fully co-ordinated with the Bolivian government and appropriate agencies under their own national development plan," he said.

USAID said it deeply regretted Mr Morales' decision.

"Those who will be most hurt by the Bolivian government's decision are the Bolivian citizens who have benefited from our collaborative work on education, agriculture, health, alternative development, and the environment," it said in a statement.

USAID has been working in Bolivia for almost five decades, and had a budget of $52.1m (£33.4m) for the country in 2010, according to its website.

It cites as its main aims the strengthening of Bolivia's health system and the provision of "equal access to health care by eliminating social exclusion", as well as improving "the livelihoods of economically and socially disadvantaged people by increasing income and managing natural resources".

On previous May Days, Mr Morales had announced the nationalisation of key industries, such as hydroelectric power and the electricity grid.

Speaking at a rally in La Paz on Wednesday, Mr Morales said he "would only nationalise the dignity of the Bolivian people".

He said there was "no lack of US institutions which continue to conspire against our people and especially the national government, which is why we're going to take the opportunity to announce on this May Day that we've decided to expel USAID".

He then turned to his Foreign Minister, David Choquehuanca, and asked him to inform the US embassy of his decision. The president also linked the expulsion to a recent remark by US Secretary of State John Kerry, who referred to Latin America as "the backyard" of the US.

Mr Kerry made the remark as he tried to persuade US Congressmen of the importance of the region, telling them that "the Western Hemisphere is our backyard. It's critical to us."

Bolivia's ABI state news agency reported that USAID was "accused of alleged political interference in peasant unions and other social organisations".

Mr Morales has threatened USAID with expulsion in the past, saying that its programmes have "political rather than social" ends. He has also accused it of "manipulating" and "using" union leaders.

Mr Morales, who heads his country's union of coca growers, has been critical in the past of US counter-narcotic programmes in Bolivia, repeatedly stating that the fight against drugs is driven by geopolitical interests.

In 2008, Mr Morales expelled the US ambassador and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for allegedly conspiring against his government.

Mr Morales became Bolivia's first indigenous president in 2005.

He was re-elected by a landslide in 2009, but has since faced protests from indigenous communities angered by the construction of a major road through their territory, and by police and army officers demanding better pay."

About the corrupt USAID from USA Today, 2009:

USAID often funnels US taxpayer dollars to the UN. Money given to the UN is always on a no-strings basis, can be put in someone's Swiss bank account, no questions will be asked. USAID is free to withhold information about UN abuse of millions of US taxpayer dollars, has willfully done so in the past without consequence. Following is one example:
4/15/2009, "Report: U.N. spent U.S. funds on shoddy projects," USA Today, Ken Dilanian

"The U.N. ran a "quick impact" infrastructure program (for Afghanistan) from 2003 to 2006 under a $25 million grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The U.N. delivered shoddy work, diverted money to other countries and then stonewalled U.S. efforts to figure out what happened, according to a report by USAID's inspector general obtained by USA TODAY under the Freedom of Information Act.

"Due to the refusal of the United Nations to cooperate with this investigation, questions remain unanswered," the report says.

Federal prosecutors in New York City were forced to drop criminal and civil cases because the U.N. officials have immunity, according to the report. USAID has scaled back its dealings with the U.N. and hired a collection agency to seek $7.6 million back, Deputy Administrator James Bever said. The aid agency (USAID) hasn't heeded its inspector general's request to sever all ties.

"There are certain cases where working with the U.N. is the only option available," (USAID's) Bever said in an e-mail....

One U.N. employee told investigators that "about $10 million of USAID grant money went to projects in other countries, to include Sudan, Haiti, Sri Lanka and Dubai." That witness said the Afghanistan country director for the U.N. Office for Project Services (UNOPS), which served as the contractor on the project for the U.N. Development Program (UNDP), spent about $200,000 in U.S. money to renovate his guesthouse. Witness names were withheld by USAID.

The development program hired UNOPS to do the work and kept a 7% management fee, the report says. The finances were "out of control," an unnamed project services manager told investigators.
An unnamed USAID contractor told investigators that the program was "ill conceived from the beginning. This was a political idea to do quick impact projects that would look good," the report said....

USAID's inspector general, Donald Gambatesa told the Commission on Wartime Contracting during a February public hearing that he was "concerned" that his agency was continuing to do business with the U.N.

Commissioner Dov Zakheim, a former Pentagon controller, asked Gambatesa whether the agencies have immunity "if they siphon (their U.S. grants) all off into Swiss banks? Is that accurate? They will be totally immune, no matter what they do with the money?"
"My understanding is, yes," Gambatesa replied."...

USAID in bid-rigging:

“The Justice Department is conducting a criminal investigation into possible contract rigging by the general counsel at the government agency that distributes foreign aid, documents obtained by The Associated Press show.

Memos from the inspector general of the U.S. Agency for International Development also reveal that the IG is investigating whether Deputy Administrator Donald Steinberg tried to interfere with an internal investigation."...

GOP rewards Karl Rove for beating the Tea Party in 2012 by paying $15 million for data deal he promoted, now more Americans will hear GOP message which is, We're good guys, just like the democrats

.
5/1/13, "Karl Rove-linked company gets GOP data deal," Politico, Tarini Parti

"The Republican National Committee has chosen a Karl Rove-linked voter data project called Liberty Works to help it compete with Democrats in the digital arena.

Liberty Works will team up with Data Trust, whose chairman of the board is former RNC Chairman Mike Duncan, committee spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski confirmed to POLITICO.

“Basically, RNC is going to provide the data, and then Liberty Works will build the platform, and Data Trust will manage it all,” Kukowski said. “This is kind of in the beginning stages. There are legal issues that we’re going to iron out.”

Several data entities — one of which had connections to the Koch brothers — had been competing for the partnership, POLITICO previously reported. Roll Call first reported Wednesday on the selection of Liberty Works and Data Trust.

Rove, who had been working with Liberty Works’ founder Dick Boyce, pitched donors in New York last month for the $15 million-plus data project and also talked it up in March to top GOP insiders at an invitation-only conference in Georgia.

Jonathan Collegio, a spokesman for Rove’s American Crossroads, previously told POLITICO that Liberty Works was a “stand-alone” effort, and Boyce reportedly distanced himself from Rove in
conversations with prospective donors.

Kukowski said that Rove was not directly affiliated with the efforts. “Obviously, Karl Rove has been an interested data user on our side,” she said. “But he is not affiliated with the RNC, Liberty Works or Data Trust in this endeavor.”

Kristin Davison, chief of staff for Rove, said that he is not financially linked to Liberty Works and any implication otherwise is incorrect.

Since last November’s losses, Rove has spoken about the need to update the GOP’s data operation. In a Wall Street Journal op-ed in March, Rove said that “Silicon Valley Republicans are working to modernize the GOP’s voter file,” although he didn’t mention Liberty Works by name.

“The information and applications should provide for dynamic microtargeting and at least match the Obama campaign’s ability to connect target voters with volunteers they know or whose interests match their own,” Rove wrote. “It should also be possible to update the master voter file in real time from phone banks, door knocks, online activity and other data streams. The platform will use open architecture, so enterprising GOP developers can build additional applications that candidates and campaigns find useful.”

Boyce, a San Francisco-based private-equity investor, called the project a game-changer.

“Our venture will change the game with a Republican, free enterprise approach to data and technology,” Boyce said in a statement Wednesday. “We are building an open platform to increase access to data for the entire Republican team as well as to bring creativity and technological innovation to our party through new great applications that can be built off the platform.”" via Drudge

Added comment: First Prize for beating the Tea Party in 2012 actually goes to Rupert Murdoch. Among other things, Murdoch gave Karl Rove and the rest their bully pulpits. One or more of these cowards hiding behind Murdoch's skirts even attacked Rush Limbaugh
if he said the slightest thing that displeased them. The Tea Party couldn't have been beaten without the artillery provided by Fox News. Rupert Murdoch's views on major issues align with far left democrats, Bloomberg, et al., but for whatever reason he likes to stay involved with the GOP process just enough to make sure democrats win. Murdoch empowered Bush crowd hacks whose only claim to fame at best was destroying this country, the GOP, and lifetimes of work and sacrifice by millions of Americans who played by the rules, paid the bills, kept quiet, and kept the country together. The Silent Majority. To this day the Bush crowd despises the Silent Majority, treats them viciously, has people put out pieces every so often that these people are as dangerous as the John Birch Society. Equally responsible is Bush #1 who in 1990 legalized the criminal global warming scam, mandated that the US taxpayer would have perpetual financial responsibility for it by being forced to send endless taxpayer money to thugs and dictators around the world for a non-existent, non-provable crisis they planned to go on forever, bleeding Americans to death day by day, preying on their generosity and man's wish to "do good for the planet.' If this isn't genocide than what is? The Bush #2 crowd happily turned us over to the radical left, haven't lost a minute of sleep about it, have no intention of leaving the public stage, and would rather die than let us save this country. P.S. There are other GOP players who had big parts in defeating the Tea Party which I've listed elsewhere on this blog. But Murdoch I think is the biggest.

So Rush Limbaugh is the problem, per the GOP, but the GOP refuses to differentiate itself from the democrats. This is similar to what McCain did in 2008, repeatedly lectured right of center Americans desperate for a candidate who cared about this country that Obama would be just fine:

8/31/12, "The Obama Good Guy/Bad Guy Debate," Rush Limbaugh transcript

"RUSH: Marco Rubio: "Our problem with Obama is he's not a bad person." Here's Ed Rollins yesterday afternoon on Fox with Megyn Kelly. Megyn Kelly said, "You know, it was clearly a theme last night. Over and over again they pounded that it's something to be proud of in this country to be successful, the foundation of what this country was built on is success. Ed, did the Republicans make their case?"

ROLLINS: They certainly did to a certain extent.
The president and his team are not bad people in spite of Rush Limbaugh gonna criticize us for saying he's not a bad guy. They just have a different viewpoint. And I think the viewpoint is that, you know, we need government to interfere, we need to redistribute wealth, government needs to be the referee. Our perspective is stay out of our way and let us just go. Give us the freedom to go achieve the things that we want to achieve as an American."

RUSH: I've never stated that I want them to talk about Obama being a bad guy. My express desire has been that there be some leadership....

"All I've asked for is some ideology. Just explain liberalism, just tell 'em who Obama is in that regard. Obviously they didn't want to do it. They were obviously afraid to say things like, "Obama doesn't have the same view of America we do. In his world, America is guilty, doesn't deserve to be a superpower." There's a movie out there that people are showing up in droves to see that makes this point. Maybe they're relying on that. I don't know. But I don't want to say he's a bad guy. All I've ever said is get some ideology in this. Explain what conservatism is. Explain what liberalism is. It's so easy to do, and it's highly educational....

RUSH:  I did sort of blanch when I thought they were gonna say he's a good guy. A good guy does not accuse you of causing another man's wife to die of cancer. A good guy does not accuse you of shoving grandma over the cliff to die in a wheelchair.

Nice guys, good guys don't do that kind of stuff."...image above from Rush Limbaugh

P.S. Rush Limbaugh's heart belongs to the establishment GOP and Karl Rove, two entities that are preventing us from saving this country. But on his radio show,  many times Rush sounds like his heart is with those of us in the Silent Majority, the grassroots. It's not, but we listen to him because he sometimes says what we want to hear. I've listened to him since 1989 and have heard enough to know this is true. When it matters most, Rush will torpedo the grassroots and carry water for the establishment. As horrible as this is, it doesn't negate the fact that Rush is a true original, an intellectual and creative genius, one man alone who created something vast and kept it going for many, many years. At minimum he's performed a great service by educating us about the media. Ed Rollins is less than nothing compared to Rush Limbaugh.

----------------------------------------------------------

4/30/13, "Global Warming Alarm: Continued Cooling May Jeopardize Climate Science And Green Energy Funding!" Forbes, Larry Bell

"The past 17 years of flat global temperatures are creating a big chill for lots of global warming doom-premised industries. Those experiencing cold sweats must certainly include legions of climate scientists who have come to depend upon the many tens of billions of taxpayer bucks for studies that would have little demand without a big crisis for the public to worry about. And that amount pales in comparison with the hundreds of $ billions we spend on generous subsidies, lost tax revenues and inflated consumer costs for otherwise non-competitive “green energy” industries which depend upon those scary climate reports, or the insane economic penalties imposed  upon all segments through EPA’s climate-premised regulatory rampage.

Cooler temperatures blow ill-winds for government bureaucrats, crony-capitalist rent- seekers, and other hucksters whose ambitions depend upon hot air.  Even Western Europe, the cradle of carbon-caused climate craziness and cap-and-trade corruption, is feeling a cold draft. As Alister Doyle, reporting from Reuters in Oslo, recently observed: “Weak economic growth and the pause in warming is undermining governments’ willingness to make a rapid billion-dollar shift from fossil fuels. Almost 200 governments have agreed to work out a plan by the end of 2015 to combat global warming.”

In April, the Parliament in Strasbourg voted against artificially propping up the price of Emission Trading System carbon permit prices following the collapse of energy demand in connection with the Continent’s economic crisis. While the low price of carbon allowances is great for energy customers, you can be assured that it is viewed very differently by so-called “renewable” energy and carbon credit trading promoters who depend upon higher-than-market fossil fuel prices to stay in business.  The Parliament’s veto reflects encouraging recognition that unwarranted, economy-ravaging carbon rationing is a feverish folly.

Gosh…Where Did All of Those Expensive Climate Models Go Wrong?

A scientist who commented in a Climategate email was badly mistaken when he observed: “It is inconceivable that policymakers will be willing to make billion-and trillion-dollar decisions for adaptation to the projected regional climate change based on models that do not even describe and simulate the processes that are the building blocks of climate variability.” As it turned out, our policymakers did make those horrendously costly decisions based upon highly speculative model projections, mostly reported by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Still, another researcher probably got it right, anticipating some very troubling consequences: “What if climate change appears to be just mainly a multi-decadal natural fluctuation? They’ll kill us probably…” Even Paul Ehrlich, best known for his 1968 doom and gloom book, “The Population Bomb”, recognizes this peril.  Writing in a March 2010 Nature editorial that a barrage of challenges countering the notion of a looming global warming catastrophe has his alarmist colleagues more alarmed than usual, he said: “Everyone is scared s***less [fecally void], but they don’t know what to do.”

There is good reason for this cooling climate consternation. As David Whitehouse at the Global Warming Policy Foundation points out: “If we have not passed it already, we are on the threshold of global observations becoming incompatible with the consensus theory of climate change.”

Whitehouse notes that there has been no statistically significant increase in annual global temperatures since 1997. He goes on to say: “If the standstill (lower temperatures) continues for a few more years, it will mean that no one who has just reached adulthood, or younger, will have witnessed the Earth get warmer during their lifetime.” (Since 1997, atmospheric CO2  has increased from 370 ppm to 390 ppm.)

These observed developments have prompted the U.K.’s Met Office Climate Center (the national weather service) to quietly revise its projections.  They now say:  “The latest decadal prediction suggests that the next five years are likely to be a little bit lower than predicted from the previous prediction.” The predicted increase from 2013 through 2017 was 0.43 degree Celsius above the 1971-2000 mean, while the previous prediction said temperature would increase 0.54 degree from 2012 through 2016. Simply stated, it will be cooler than they expected!

The London Daily Mail published a chart that, as they say, “reveals how [the IPCC’s] ’95 % certain’ estimates of the Earth heating up were a spectacular miscalculation.” Comparing actual temperatures against the IPCC’s 95% certainty projections, the lines track closely until recent years, at which point the line representing the observed temperatures “is about to crash out of” the boundaries of the lowest projections. They were supposed to climb sharply after 1990.

Whereas the IPCC has predicted that temperatures will rise by 3 degrees Celsius by 2050 if CO2 doubles from pre-industrialized levels of 1750, The Research Council of Norway plugged in real temperature data from 2000 to 2010 and determined that doubling would cause only a 1.9 degree Celsius rise. Another study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences links temperature changes from 1750 to natural changes (such as sea temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean) and suggests “…the anthropogenic global warming trends might have been overestimated by a factor of two in the second half of the 20th century”.

Peter Stott, a researcher who authored the most recent IPCC report chapter on global climate projections, has found that climate model projections of an alarming temperature rise are inconsistent with past observations. When he and his colleagues at the U.K.’s Met Office forced the amount of global warming predicted by the models to equal the amount of warming actually observed, the projected future rise to accompany human greenhouse gas emissions dropped substantially. In other words, the better climate models match the past, the less scary the likely future looks.

Stott isn’t alone. Within the past two years, at least seven peer-reviewed studies published in the scientific literature have concluded that the influence of doubling the amount of CO2 in the Earth’s atmosphere is likely to be substantially lower than IPCC has determined and have ruled out the high-end projections.

James Annan, formerly a strong defender of Michael Mann’s infamously flawed alarmist “hockey stick” graph and an expert on “climate sensitivity” to CO2 and other influences, recently concluded in his blog that IPCC is increasingly acting in a wholly unscientific manner. He referred to a list of scientists polled as largely constituting “the self-same people responsible for the bogus analyses [he] criticized over the years, and which even if they were valid then, are certainly outdated now”.

Annan also said: “Since IPCC can no longer defend their old analyses in any meaningful manner, it seems they have to resort to an unsupported ‘this is what we think, because we asked our pals’…having firmly wedded themselves to their politically convenient long tail of high values, their response to new evidence is little more than sticking their fingers in their ears and singing ‘la la la I can’t hear you’.”

Those IPCC reports serve as the primary basis for EPA’s regulatory actions under the Clean Air Act…as are the president’s statements that his administration’s policies are based upon “the overwhelming judgment of science.” Asserting in his State of the Union Address that global warming played a role in fueling deadly and destructive storms like Hurricane Sandy, President Obama said: “We must do more to combat climate change…It’s true that no single event makes a trend. But the fact is, the 12 hottest years on record have all come in the last 15. Heat waves, droughts, wildfires, and floods – all are now more frequent and intense.”

But there’s a big disconnect from facts here. In reality, there has been no increase in the strength or frequency of landfall hurricanes in the world’s five main hurricane basins during the past 50-70 years; there has been no increase in the strength or frequency in tropical Atlantic hurricane development during the past 370 years; the U.S. is currently enjoying the longest period ever recorded without intense Category 3-5 hurricane landfall; there has been no trend since 1950 evidencing any  increased frequency of strong (F3-F-5) U.S. tornadoes; there has been no increase in U.S. flood magnitudes over the past 85 years; and long-term sea level rise is not accelerating.

Well Then, If IPCC Is Wrong, What About Those Recent Heat Waves?

Reacting to hot temperatures in much of the U.S. last summer, former NASA employee and eternal anti-fossil fuel activist James Hansen warned us that August was “the kind of future that climate change would bring to us and our planet.” Echoing this, Al Gore lamented on his website, “dirty weather is created by “dirty energy” …” a lot of people are saying out loud, ‘I’m too hot!’ “. Even NOAA said that the lower 48 had seen the warmest year on record in 2012.

Yet as well-known Climate Depot blogger Marc Morano, recognizes: “NOAA can only claim that 2012 was the warmest single year on record through statistical tricks…including “adjusting” raw data and adding data to the overall data set from stations that did not exist when the record first started being recorded. Absent these illegitimate actions, the measured temperatures from the 1930s still match or exceed the measured temperatures from the 1990s and 2000s.”

Perhaps unsurprisingly, we haven’t heard much in the media about the fact  that in June last year, 46 U.S. cities, including some in the Deep South, set or tied record lows…or that Alaska, which isn’t part of the lower 48, has been reporting some of the coldest winters on record since 2000.  According to the Alaska Climate Research Center at University of Alaska-Fairbanks, that record has held true for 19 of 20 National Weather Stations sprinkled from one corner of the state to another.

The New York Times breathlessly reported: ”The temperature differences between years are usually measured in fractions of a degree, but last year’s 55.3degree average [in the contiguous U.S. states] demolished  the previous record, set in 1998, by a full degree Fahrenheit.” But somehow they didn’t see fit to mention that 2008 was two degrees cooler than 2006,

or that 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 were all cooler than 1998 by a larger margin than 2012 was hotter than 1998.

And, by the way, don’t forget that the U.S. isn’t the globe. Those contiguous states, which omit Alaska and Hawaii, represent only 1.58% of the Earth’s surface.

During most of the 2011-2012 winter, the  Bering Sea witnessed an ice extent between 20 to 30 percent above the 1979 to 2000 average, with the highest February expanse ever measured. Fellow Forbes contributor James Taylor reported that Antarctic sea ice also set record, with the largest amount of ice ever recorded occurring on day 256 of the 2012 calendar year. In fact Antarctic sea ice has been growing ever since satellites first began measuring it 33 years ago, and the expanse exceeded  the 33-year average throughout 2012.

Hot and Cold Blasts from the Past; Be Careful What You Wish For:

Much of recent warming alarmism centered upon a temperature trend that began in the 1980s, occurring less than a decade after our planet came out of a three-decade cooling trend that led many to fear a coming Ice Age. As climatologist and fellow Forbes contributor Patrick Michaels recalls:

“When I was going to graduate school, it was gospel that the Ice Age was about to start. I had trouble warming up to that one too.” Referring to recent alarmism, he observes: “This (greenhouse hysteria) is not the first climate apocalypse, but it’s certainly the loudest.” As the late world-renowned atmospheric scientist Reid Bryson, formerly a leader in voicing Ice Age concern in the 1970s, said: “Before there were enough people to make any difference at all, two million years ago, nobody was changing the climate, yet the climate was changing, okay?”  Bryson told the Wisconsin Energy Cooperative News in 2007 “All this argument is the temperature going up or not, it’s absurd. Of course it’s going up. It has gone up since the early 1800s, before the Industrial Revolution, because we’re coming out of the Little Ice Age, not because we’re putting more carbon dioxide into the air.” He went on to comment: “You can go outside and spit and have the same effect as doubling carbon dioxide.”

It might be worth mentioning that some heavyweight U.S. solar physicists are once again predicting that Planet Earth may very well be heading into a period of protracted cooling due to a lengthy spell of low sunspot activity…potentially another “Little Ice Age”. This announcement that came from scientists at the U.S. National Solar Observatory and U.S. Air Force Laboratory was based upon three different analyses of the Sun’s recent behavior.

One of the world’s leading solar scientists, Habibiullo Abdussamatov, head of the Russian Academy of Sciences Pulkovo Observatory in St. Petersburg and director of the Russian segment of the international Space Station, agrees that Planet Earth may be in for a long cold spell. He points out that deep cold periods have occurred five times over the last 1,000 years. Each is correlated with declines in solar irradiance, much like we are experiencing now.

Dr. Abdussamatov believes: “A global freeze will come about regardless of whether or not industrialized countries put a cap on their greenhouse gas emissions. The common view of Man’s industrial activity is a deciding factor in global warming has emerged from a misinterpretation of cause and effect.” He predicts that a new Little Ice Age will commence around 2013/2014, the depth of the decline will occur around 2040, and a deep freeze will last for the rest of this century.

The last Little Ice Age, which occurred in the middle of the 16th century, wasn’t broadly regarded as a good time. That period lasting about 150 years, killed millions in Europe, ending soon after Washington’s troops suffered brutal winter temperatures at Valley Forge in 1777, and

Napoleon’s experienced a bitterly cold retreat from Russia in 1812.

Whether cooling continues or not, is there any reason at all to panic? No, and by the same token if, for any reason, global warming resumes as it probably will, again and again following intermittent cool-downs, let’s be grateful for the many human health and welfare benefits it brings. Let’s celebrate times when CO2-dependent agriculture flourishes over extended growing seasons, and when cold-related death rates decline.

Let’s accept the fact that climate changes for many reasons without permission or help from us…it always has…always will…and not always for the worse. And let’s be skeptical about advice from alarmists who obviously depend upon scare tactics to sell us a hot bill of goods." via Tom Nelson

This is how climate profiteer EDF operates:

In 2009 Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) took over 13,000 pounds (approx. $21,000 US) from the UK government as partial funding for a "project entitled "Influencing climate security policy and legislation in Texas."...The money was used to fly two Texan state politicians, including the climate sceptic Republican Troy Fraser, to the UK to receive a briefing with climate scientists and government officials. A conference was also held at the Texas Capitol in Austin in which a video of Prince Charles personally addressing Texan politicians on the subject of climate change was shown."

Duke University is business partners with the federal government as many are. Without CO2 terror, both would lose billions:

7/1/2012,  "Duke lobbying weighs dollars and advocacy," dukechronicle.com, by Yeshwanth Kandimalla

"As a recipient of millions in federal dollars and a tax-exempt nonprofit, the University navigates a delicate boundary when it comes to political advocacy.

Duke’s lobbying expenditures have averaged around $418,000 annually from 2008 to 2011, according to University disclosures. The spending is crucial to help secure funding and other University interests at the federal level, said Chris Simmons, associate vice president for federal relations and one of three registered lobbyists employed directly by the University. In 2011, the University received nearly $1.4 billion from the federal government in the form of research grants, hospital reimbursements and financial aid....

President Richard Brodhead periodically sends letters to members of North Carolina’s congressional delegation outlining Duke’s priorities in federal appropriations. In a letter sent in February, Brodhead called on Sens. Richard Burr, R-N.C. and Kay Hagan, D-N.C. and Rep. David Price, D-N.C., to support more than

the National Institutes of Health, more than
$7 billion for the National Science Foundation and more than
$150 million for the National Endowment for the Humanities."...

Duke University's Chameides' interest in North Carolina legislative matters prompted a courteous response. The blog post below from June 2012 "was written in response to a blog post by William Chameides, Dean of Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment. If there were errors in Burton’s analysis surely Chamedes would point them out, don’t you think?"

6/11/12, "The point of the bill is to conform policy to science," Dan Burton
.

"Climate Movement activists are pushing scientifically ungrounded policies, which would have severe economic consequences for North Carolina. This bill represents “push-back,” to force policymakers to conform policy to what the science really tells us about sea level rise....

Regulatory rulemakers create a type of “law” which impacts citizens just as much as bills passed by the Legislature, but often with considerably less direct citizen input than is possible when laws are enacted by legislators who must stand for election every two years. There’s real danger that rulemakers, under pressure from special interest groups, will subordinate geophysical science to political science, codifying scientific nonsense into North Carolina’s body of rules and regulations.

Nobody should want that!""...

In 2011 alone the US aimed to spend “$10.6 million (taxpayer dollars) a day to study, combat, and educate about climate change.”

6/4/12, “Climate change stunner: USA leads world in CO2 cuts since 2006,” Vancouver Observer, Saxifrage

“Not only that, but as my top chart shows, US CO2 emissions are falling even faster thanwhat President Obama pledged in the global Copenhagen Accord.…
Here is the biggest shocker of all: the average American’s CO2 emissions are down to levels not seen since 1964 --over half a century ago. …Coal is the number two source of CO2 for Americans. Today the average American burns an amount similar to what they did in 1955, and even less than they did in the 1940s. …It is exactly America’s historical role of biggest and dirtiest that makes their sharp decline in CO2 pollution so noteworthy

and potentially game changing at the global level.”...

Global Warming ‘action’ was mandated and institutionalized in US government in 1990 by George Bush the 1st in the “U.S. Global Change Research Act of 1990.” CO2 reduction is mentioned near the end in Sec. 204, item 4.

Devoting 13 federal agencies to ‘climate’ matters is hardly lagging in “action.”

Trillions have been taken from US taxpayers for climate endeavors via agency budget allocations, tax subsidies, diversion of US military to climate or green projects, countless federal regulations, vast sums shipped out in no strings foreign aid for ‘climate’ capacity building, etc.

Other countries’ CO2 hasn’t dropped despite hundreds of billions spent on cap and trade and extra taxes. This isn’t to say the US government hasn’t become business partners with the ‘climate’ industry.

US 'climate action' in Nov. 2012  included giving $6 billion US taxpayer dollars for 'clean energy' to the Sultan of Brunei who owns 5000+ cars and to the Pres. of Indonesia, whose country is so corrupt even the World Bank says crime adds 20% to costs.
