GM now bailing out 'a little part of Europe' via Peugeot using part of the $25 billion it still owes US taxpayers 'which may never be recovered'

.
"General Motors Co. owes about $25 billion" to US taxpayers as of 1/26/12. Instead of paying us back they're using it to bail out part of Europe.

2/28/12, "Reports: Peugeot to raise $1.34B as part of GM buying 7 percent stake in French automaker," MLive, MichiganLive, M. Wayland

"General Motors Co. is reportedly close to purchasing a 7 percent stake in PSA Peugeot Citroen in an effort to help its struggling European operations.

According to numerous media outlets, the Paris-based carmaker could announce as soon as this week plans to sell a stake of its operations to the Detroit-based company as part of a development alliance."...

"Feb. 28, Bloomberg News:

A “person familiar with the situation” told the Wall Street Journal Tuesday that the alliance plans to raise about €1 billion ($1.34 billion) in connection with the reported alliance, which would be worth up to €250 million based on Peugeot's market capitalization of €3.58 billion....

Executives at GM have consistently said that drastic changes are coming this year to GM Europe, which lost $747 million last year."...

Comments at MLive:

"sparkenator

This investment in Peugeot is called a development alliance by GM. Three years ago the US taxpayers bailed out GM now they are going to try to bail out a little part of Europe by investing in Peugeot GM is losing money in Europe because their giant subsidiary, Opel,( Buick Regal ) is caught up in Europe’s financial mess , I don’t’ see how the Peugeot deal is going to help that situation."

"Independent Joe

Looks like GM is back to their old ways. What a surprise."

Sparkenator:

Numerous analysts feel the same way. They say both companies are in too much of a mess in Europe to help one another. Since 1999, GM Europe has lost $12.4 billion.

1/26/12, "Report: Taxpayers still owed $133B from bailout," AP, via Fox News

"Companies that were bailed out during the financial crisis still owe U.S. taxpayers nearly $133 billion. Treasury's plans to recoup that money have been slowed by the volatile stock market and weakness among smaller banks.

Some of the money will never be recovered.

That's the conclusion of the acting inspector general for the government's financial bailout. Some bailout programs, like the effort to reduce home foreclosures, will last as late as 2017, the inspector general said. Those programs could cost an additional $50 billion or more.

Among the largest bailed-out companies, American International Group Inc. still owes taxpayers around $50 billion, General Motors Co. owes about $25 billion and Ally Financial Inc. about $12 billion.

The 371 banks that still owe money include Regions Financial Corp., which owes $3.5 billion; Zions Bancorporation, $1.4 billion; Synovus Financial Corp., $967.9 million; Popular Inc., $935 million; First Bancorp of San Juan, Puerto Rico, $400 million; and M&T Bank Corp., $381.5 million.

After the 2008 financial crisis, Congress authorized $700 billion for the bailout of financial companies and automakers, called the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP. About $413 billion was lent. So far, the government has recovered about $318 billion, or about 77 percent of it.

"TARP is not over," Christy Romero, the acting IG, said in a statement."...

NASA hacked 13 times in 2011, hackers gained full system access to all files, IG says NASA lax in security matters

.
No data from NASA can be considered legitimate.

3/2/12, "NASA says it was hacked 13 times last year," Reuters

"NASA said hackers broke into its computer systems 13 times last year, stealing employee credentials and gaining access to mission-critical projects in breaches that could compromise U.S. national security.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration spends only $58 million of its $1.5 billion annual IT budget on cyber security, Paul Martin, the agency's inspector general, told a Congressional panel on NASA security earlier this week.

"Some NASA systems house sensitive information which, if lost or stolen, could result in significant financial loss, adversely affect national security, or significantly impair our nation's competitive technological advantage," Martin said in testimony before the U.S. House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, released on Wednesday. (bit.ly/yQFSB8)

He said the agency discovered in November that hackers working through a Chinese-based IP address broke into the network of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

He said they gained full system access, which allowed them to modify, copy, or delete sensitive files, create user accounts for mission-critical JPL systems and upload hacking tools to steal user credentials and compromise other NASA systems. They were also able to modify system logs to conceal their actions, he said.

"Our review disclosed that the intruders had compromised the accounts of the most privileged JPL users, giving the intruders access to most of JPL's networks," he said.

In another attack last year, intruders stole credentials for accessing NASA systems from more than 150 employees.

Martin said the agency has moved too slowly to encrypt or scramble the data on its laptop computers to protect information from falling into the wrong hands.

Unencrypted notebook computers that have been lost or stolen include ones containing codes for controlling the International Space Station as well as sensitive data on NASA's Constellation and Orion programs and Social Security numbers, Martin said."

WikiLeaks Nov. 5, 2008, Karl Rove wants to bring in 'someone he can control next time' like Jeb Bush. Bush crowd expected McCain to lose

After discussions with his inner circle, which explains the delay in his
speech, McCain decided not to pursue the voter fraud in PA and Ohio,
despite his staff's desire to make it an issue. He said no. Staff felt
they could get a federal injunction to stop the process.
McCain felt the
crowds assembled in support of Obama and such would be detrimental to our
country and it would do our nation no good for this to drag out like last
go around, coupled with the possibility of domestic violence.

My guy said many were shocked, but after reflecting upon his decision,
thought he put the country first.
----------------------------------

Curiously, there are whispers of McCain being set up by the Cheney/Bush
crowd, because McCain was never liked by either.
Some are shocked he did
so well. Coupled with serious errors in tactics. Some made no sense.
For example, the Hispanics in Florida loved Palin but his camp would never
send her there when easy money was to be had.
My guy said Rove and
company want to bring in someone they can control next go around. McCain
was not controllable. Jeb Bush's name is being discussed. Source
advised Rick Davis was an arsehole and McCain's econ team had no clue,
trusting in academics vice business-people. The Jewish crowd was split
and money never flowed. For example, McCain staff only gave $3000.00 for
nationwide ads, when Obama put in $500,000 targeting the Jewish community
in Florida alone.

I'll see what more I can collect on this. "

"The advertisement is for "Sick and Sicker: When the Government Becomes Your Doctor," a documentary that interviews Canadian doctors and patients in the hope of showing how dangerous "Obamacare" is for the American people.

"Barack Obama wants politicians and bureaucrats to control America’s entire medical system. Go to hell Barack," the ad says."...

'Breitbart lives!' Thomas Lifson, American Thinker

Update: Breitbart is here!

"I can't answer for the others, but I do know that one of Andrew's legacies for me is an injection of fortitude."

3/2/12, "Breitbart Lives!" Thomas Lifson, American Thinker

"The overwhelming consensus of the GOP establishment is that Americans like Barack Obama. There is no profit in attacking him personally. Shut up about all the disturbing signs that he was groomed by a series of troubling mentors, centered his adult life on the Alinsky Left in Chicago, and had his career managed by ruthless pros who saw the electoral potential of an "clean, articulate black guy" with Ivy credentials, a slim build, and a terrific smile.

A substantial portion of the GOP base is with Breitbart faction of Obama skeptics. They are tarred with the label "birthers" even if their skepticism is limited to Bill Ayers' role in authoring Dreams from My Father or the troubling anomaly of Obama's Social Security number. The vehemence of the media left in slurring anyone who questions any aspect of Obama's legend is evidence of the underlying fear of exposure. After all, their current strategy is to distract the electorate from Obama's failures by manufacturing from whole cloth a phony notion that the GOP wants to deny women access to contraception and health care. Skeptical inquiry of any sort is anathema to this crowd. After all, skepticism is contagious in a time of disillusionment."...

NY Times keeps murders to itself, material omission of facts on the ground in Afghanistan

.
The NY Times leaves out at least 2 major facts in a Koran story. One, they omit that Korans had been discarded because they were defaced by Muslims in prison. The Times invites the world to believe the burning was a sole and spontaneous act of Americans. Second, they specifically say things have quieted down in the past few days and are returning to normal. This is demonstrably false and they know it because they themselves published March 1 that two American soldiers were murdered in their barracks by Afghans and 4 others injured.

3/2/12, "5 U.S. Service Members Found Responsible for Koran Burnings," NY Times, Graham Bowley and Alissa J. Rubin

"But the only investigation that will carry formal legal weight is a third inquiry, conducted by the American military alone, that could lead ultimately to criminal legal action or lesser administrative punishment. Its findings and recommendations are expected in the second half of this month.

After last week’s deadly protests, Afghanistan has become quieter in the last few days, with few signs of protests. Some of the NATO military advisers pulled from Afghan ministries by General Allen after the shooting deaths of two American officers inside the Interior Ministry (last Saturday) have also begun to return to work."

-----------------------------

3/1/12, "Two American Soldiers Die in Shooting at Afghan Base," NY Times, Graham Bowley

2 killed, 4 others injured. "The Afghan soldier involved in the shooting, he said, was a platoon leader who had taken part in joint patrols with Americans. The civilian was an Afghan literacy instructor at the base."...

------------------------------

2/21/12, "Angry Afghans protest Koran disposal at Bagram," AP story in Army Times

"Muslim holy books that were burned in a pile of garbage at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan had been removed from a library at a nearby detention center because they contained extremist messages or inscriptions, a western military official said Tuesday.

The military official with knowledge of the incident said it appeared that the Korans and other Islamic readings were being used to fuel extremism, and that detainees at Parwan Detention Facility were writing on the documents to exchange extremist messages."...

$6 billion+ US taxpayer dollars a month are what we pay to have our soldiers murdered. The only war going on is by the US government against the American people.

Who will fill Breitbart's shoes? No one.

.
The Silent Majority may go back to being silent.

3/2/12, "Breitbart: Big, Bigger than Life," Pamela Geller, Atlas Shrugs

"I cannot get my arms around Breitbart's sudden death. I just can't. General Patton in the information battle-space leaves the battlefield at Normandy.

I just love him. He was the only one on the right with fierce spine and courage. So many on the big right blogosphere and media are so afraid of tackling certain issues. Weak. Insipid. Andrew loved to confront the lies, the corruption, the evil. The happy warrior indeed.

He was a fearless champion.

When I was organizing the protests against the Ground Zero mosque so many were afraid to speak. They feared media or GOP establishment backlash -- not Andrew. He spoke and he was brilliant. Watch it here.

The ugliness and pure evil of the glee of the left best illustrates what Andrew had brilliantly been exposing to us for years: Rolling Stone: Andrew Breitbart: Death of a Douche

When I saw him at CPAC, he was full of talk on this new Big project. Thank Gd they are moving ahead with it. When I was speaking in Florida this evening, someone asked me

  • who would fill Breitbart's shoes. No one."...
