UN 'peacekeepers' hurl pepper spray at Haitians and call them 'animals'

  • The Times of London reports:

"Machete fights have been reported as families argue over who should have access to the desperately limited supply of tents. Yesterday UN peacekeepers were forced to

  • use pepper spray and rubber bullets as a food hand-out at one of the biggest homeless encampments in the centre of Port-au-Prince was over-run by thousands of starving people.

"Whatever we do, it doesn't matter - they are animals," said one of the 18 Uruguayan peacekeepers in front of the collapsed National Palace, struggling to hold back the 4,000-strong crowd with a plastic shield.

  • As some of the troops fired pepper spray, others standing on top of a UN tank fired rubber bullets into the air, all but ignored by the people striving to get at the food supplies."...

Obama endorsed UN Climate Report used student and climbing magazine, Obama accepted as basis to punish and tax US

  • This is not about the environment. It is obviously about organized crime. When will Obama apologize to the American people and renounce any plan to regulate carbon? And drop the joke that it's about 'national security'? If he wants to publicly scold and threaten the Supreme Court about something, why not their 5-4 decision on CO2?
"In its (the UN IPCC's) most recent report, it stated that observed reductions in mountain ice in
  • the Andes, Alps and Africa was being caused by global warming, citing two papers as the source of the information.

However, it can be revealed that one of the sources quoted was a feature article published in a popular magazine for climbers which was based on anecdotal evidence from mountaineers about the changes they were witnessing on the mountainsides around them.

  • The other was a dissertation written by a geography student, studying for the equivalent of a master's degree, at the University of Berne in Switzerland that quoted interviews with mountain guides in the Alps.

The revelations, uncovered by The Sunday Telegraph, have raised fresh questions about the quality of the information contained in the report, which was published in 2007."...

The battle of our time: the public sector is overwhelming the private sector-Henninger

It is a competition between the public sector and the private sector over who defines the work and the institutions
  • that make a nation thrive and grow.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy planted the seeds that grew the modern Democratic Party. That year, JFK signed executive order 10988 allowing the unionization of the federal work force.

  • This changed everything in the American political system. Kennedy's order swung open the door for the inexorable rise of a unionized public work force in many states and cities.

This in turn led to the fantastic growth in membership of the public employee unions—The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the teachers' National Education Association.

  • They broke the public's bank. More than that,

they entrenched a system of taking money from members' dues and spending it on political campaigns. Over time, this transformed the Democratic Party into a public-sector dependency.

  • They became different than the party of FDR, Truman, Meany and Reuther. That party was allied with the fading industrial unions, which in turn
  • were tethered to a real world of profit and loss.

The states in the North and on the coasts turned blue because blue is the color of the public-sector unions. This tax-and-spend milieu became the training ground for their politicians.

  • Until the Obama exception, the only recent Democrats electable into the presidency had to be centrist Southerners little known to the country. Every post-Kennedy liberal who tried, failed, including Teddy.

What an irony it is that in the same week the Kennedy labor legacy hit the wall in Massachusetts, the NEA approved a $1 million donation from the union's contingency fund to the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate.

Yes, health care was ground zero, but Massachusetts—like New Jersey, like California, like New York—has been building toward this explosion for years....

  • But here's the party's self-destroying kicker: Feeding the public unions' wage demands starved other government responsibilities.
  • It ruined our ability to have a useful debate about any other public functions.

Massachusetts' spending fell for mental health, the environment, housing and higher education.

  • The physical infrastructure in blue states is literally falling apart.
  • But look at those public wage and pension-related outlays. Ever upward.

Enter the Obama administration, the first one born and raised inside this public bubble, with zero private-sector Cabinet members.

  • Act one: a $787 billion stimulus bill, which they brag mainly saved state and local jobs. Then came the six-month odyssey for Obama's $1 trillion health-care bill,
  • dripping with taxes.
  • Independent voters felt like everything was being sucked into a public-sector vortex.

This is why New Jersey's Chris Christie won running on nothing.

  • It's why in California Carly Fiorina is within three points of Sen. Barbara Boxer. It's why the party JFK enabled, "the machine," is hitting the wall.

There's no way out for these Democrats. They made a Faustian bargain 40 years ago with the public unions. For the outlays alone, they'll get some version of the Obama health-care bill. They'll also go to the same old "populist anger" well.

Now the GOP has to find a way to disconnect from a political legacy that smothered governments at all levels

  • and is now smothering the Democratic Party."

Now Bernanke...WSJ notes "populist surge on the hill"

  • Bernanke, keyholder of private slush fund of stolen taxpayer money, the Federal Reserve, may be subject to what they are calling
  • 'populism' ...
  • Well, actually, it's what happened in Massachusetts, they say...
"Until this week, Mr. Bernanke was expected to be bloodied, but get the needed votes.
  • Then at a closed-door caucus of Democratic senators on Wednesday,
the day after Democrat Martha Coakley lost to Republican Scott Brown
from Wall St. Journal, "Populist Surge on Hill eases the support for Bernanke," 1/22/10
  • It's funny that elected republicans think Scott Brown's victory had anything to do with them. It was very much in spite of them that Scott Brown was elected.
  • If democrats want to make correct decisions for any reason and use Scott Brown as an excuse for doing so, even subconsciously,
  • that's fine. ed.

Sydney Morning Herald
  • P.S. Despite Mitt Romney taking bows last night, giving the appearance he had much to do with Scott Brown's victory, local reporters say he had next to nothing to do with it.
They say credit belongs to Tea Partiers who came from near and far. From listening to WRKO radio the past few days, I learned Scott Brown is also a talk radio fan, has called into Howie Carr's show for a few years. Carr's show is heard on stations around Massachusetts. Many people obviously got to know Brown through his exchanges with Carr and listeners. I heard many callers to Carr's show who have followed Brown, and
  • not one mentioned Romney's name.
I listened to another Boston talk show on Sunday, and Romney never came up except in one instance. Which was to say ugh, and change the subject. I mention all this because the national GOP apparently has decided Romney is their next presidential candidate. Whatever Romney once was or was thought to be, that person is gone.
  • The people in Massachusetts who know him best consider his case well closed.
Note to the GOP-Brown's win was only possible because the republican party does not exist in Massachusetts. Half the voters there identify as independent.

CIA suicide slaughter: Worst Security Lapse in US History-Taliban working on video

  • AGENTS WORKING OUT IN GYM WHEN BLOWN UP--multiple sources

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said in a statement that an Afghan National Army officer wearing a suicide vest entered the base and blew himself up inside the gym. A U.S. official briefed on the blast also said it took place in the gym."...

Star-Telegram, wire reports, "CIA had hoped to use suicide bomber as an informant, former officials say"
  • (It was Bush's fault of course even though in 1993 when Al Qaeda first bombed the World Trade Center he was in the baseball business).
Newsweek:"The suicide bomber who penetrated a CIA base in Afghanistan last week and killed seven officers was not just any Al Qaeda double agent: He may have been a well known Al Qaeda blogger who boasted of his
  • “love of jihad and martyrdom” in a Taliban web magazine just a few months ago.

The new details emerging Monday about the Al Qaeda background of the attacker have stunned former agency officials and intelligence experts and raised the possibility of a major security lapse that permitted the bomber access to the base.

  • It’s a huge screw-up,” said one former senior CIA official who had worked with some of the CIA officers killed in the attack.
  • The question is, why did they think they could trust this guy? What was the level of confidence that would allow somebody like this access to a place
  • where there were this many officers?”

Initial reports last week identified the suicide bomber who blew up the CIA team based in Khost, Afghanistan as a member of the Afghan National Army. That appeared to explain how the attacker was able to get inside the base without being closely searched.

  • But NBC News and other outlets on Monday identified the bomber as a Jordanian physician who was working for Jordanian intelligence while secretly serving as an Al Qaeda double agent. After being arrested by the Jordanians over a year ago, the physician, identified as Human Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi,
  • had reportedly promised Jordanian intelligence and the CIA that he would help U.S. officers find Ayman Al Zawahiri, Al Qaeda’s number two. (Among those killed in last week’s attack was a senior Jordanian intelligence officer who is a cousin of Jordan's King Abdullah.

Al Jazeera’s Arabic language website, citing unidentified sources as well as a Taliban spokesman, added what may be the most surprising wrinkle of all to the story: the Jordanian doctor is the same person known as “Abu Dujanah al-Khurasani”—a frequent contributor to jihadi websites who once served as the administrator for the Al Hesbah Forum, a major Al Qaeda website.

  • The al Jazeera story quotes the Taliban spokesman as saying that the blogger was able to “mislead U.S. and Jordanian intelligence for a whole year,” adding that

  • the Taliban plans to release a video soon to confirm its account.

There is no way to independently confirm that Balawi and “Abu Dujinah” is the same person. But Evan Kohlmann, a U.S. government consultant who monitors jihadi web forums, said that many of the details emerging about Balawi – including his age and background — seem to match comments that Abu Dujinah has made on various web postings....

The former CIA official – who requested anonymity because of the ongoing probe into the attack—said that even if some people at the CIA believed that the Jordanian jihadi could lead them to Zawahiri,

  • it was puzzling that he would have had access to a base with multiple officers.

  • You never trust a person like that,” the former official said.

This is something that is unprecedented,” said Ali Al-Ahmed, president of the Institute of Gulf Affairs, a Washington think tank that monitors Persian Gulf developments. “This is the first time a terrorist has managed to infiltrate the CIA and carry out an attack.”" by Isakoff and Hosenball

***********

UK Telegraph: "The bomber, Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi, was a 36-year old doctor from Zarqa, Jordan, the home town of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the late head of al-Qaeda in Iraq, accordign to a report on NBC News.

  • Balawi was arrested over a year ago by Jordanian intelligence for suspected terror activities, but was thought to have been turned to support US and Jordanian efforts against al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He detonated a suicide bomb that killed the seven CIA employees - four officers and three contracted security guards - and a Jordanian intelligence officer, Ali bin Zaid, who was a member of the country's royal family.
  • Some of the officers had flown in to Camp Chapman near Khost from Kabul for what was billed as an important meeting that could yield information on the whereabouts of Ayman al-Zawahiri, deputy to Osama bin Laden.

The base coordinates CIA operations and intelligence gathering in Khost, a hotbed of insurgent activity that borders Pakistan's lawless tribal areas, former CIA officials said.

  • NBC said the head of the CIA operation in Khost was among the dead. It was one of the darkest days in the agency's 62-year history. In April 1983, eight CIA personnel were killed when the US embassy in Beirut was hit by a Hizbollah suicide bomb."******

Obama championed coal industry in 2004, coal gave $540,000 to Obama-USA Today

7/18/2008, Obama as a state senator in Illinois
WASHINGTON — "In May 1998, at the urging of the state's coal industry, the Illinois Legislature passed a bill condemning the Kyoto global warming treaty and

forbidding state efforts to regulate greenhouse gases.

Barack Obama voted "aye."...

From USA Today 7/18/08 during Obama's presidential campaign:

"The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee now calls climate change "one of the greatest moral challenges of our generation," and proposes cutting carbon emissions 80% by 2050. But as a state senator, from 1997 to 2004, he usually supported bills sought by coal interests, according to legislative records and interviews....

Obama, who touts his independence from special interests, made a point of embracing the coal industry as part of his quest for statewide office. When he ran for U.S. Senate in 2004, he was flanked by mine workers to proclaim that "there's always going to be a role for coal" in Illinois.

"He understands how important coal is to the state of Illinois and to the Midwest," said Illinois state Rep. Dan Reitz, a Democrat and former coal miner who sponsored the anti-Kyoto language and campaigned for Obama during the West Virginia primary.

Employees of coal companies and electric utilities have contributed $539,597 to Obama's U.S. Senate and presidential campaign, according to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics....

"The Obama campaign did not respond to questions about his support for the coal industry, except to address his 1998 Kyoto vote. The campaign said in a statement that the Kyoto treaty did not have "meaningful and achievable emissions targets," and that Obama "did not believe that state agencies in Illinois should unilaterally take steps to implement a global policy on their own …"

The statement said Obama supports investing in technology to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from coal burning.

Meg Boyle, global warming policy specialist for Greenpeace, called those technologies risky and expensive. She said they can't "deliver in time to avoid the most dangerous impacts of climate change."

"He's definitely trying to straddle two politically irreconcilable objectives: taking decisive action against global warming while keeping a healthy coal industry," said Frank O'Donnell, president of the non-partisan Clean Air Watch. "Obama's record certainly suggests that environmentalists aren't going to be calling the shots in his administration without input from industry."

Obama's other votes on coal in the state Senate included:

• In 1997, he voted to divert sales taxes to a fund for grants to help reopening closed coal mines and "incentives to attract new businesses that use coal."

• In 2001, Obama voted for legislation that offered $3.5 billion in loan guarantees to build coal-fired power plants with no ability to control carbon emissions.

• In 2003, he voted to allow $300 million in taxpayer-backed bonds to build or expand coal-fired power plants.

"You know, I am a strong supporter, I think, of downstate coal interests and our need to prop up and improve the outputs downstate," Obama said on the Senate floor before voting on the 2001 bill....

Obama also drew criticism for sponsoring a bill in January 2007 to devote $8 billion in subsidies to a technology to convert coal to liquid fuel. The Sierra Club says liquid coal "releases almost double the global warming emissions per gallon as regular gasoline."

As the presidential campaign was well underway in June 2007, the Obama campaign issued a clarification: He would not support liquid coal processes unless they emit a fifth less carbon than conventional fuels.

"When you're running for president and you've got environmentalists biting your head off every day, that's to be expected," said Phil Gonet, head of the Illinois Coal Association. "We're still

optimistic" (you mean you have HOPE....right)

..."that he may be helpful at some point in the future.""

Actions of Obama and his CIA pick Leon Panetta continue our slow, horrible death

  • CIA operations were 'OPEN SECRET'--everyone including Taliban knew what went on there. Obama's CIA paid US taxpayer dollars to thugs in Afghanistan dreaming that would get the bad guys to like us. This is a strategy for only one thing, of course. Death. And not a kind, quick one. A slow, horrible one.

  • Americans will continue to die, be enslaved and held in complete disdain by the Obama group. This humiliating CIA bombing-in addition to its human losses-shows a bumbling operation inviting to be brutally harmed. Death doesn't seem to bother them.
WASHINGTON—"Wednesday's attack on a U.S. compound in Afghanistan devastated what has been
  • a hub of counter terrorism and intelligence operations for the spy agency.

Seven Central Intelligence Agency officers and contractors were killed and six more wounded in the suicide bomb attack at Forward Operating Base Chapman, CIA Director Leon Panetta said Thursday,

Among the casualties was the agency's base chief, former intelligence officials said. There had been only four publicly acknowledged CIA fatalities in Afghanistan prior to this attack.

  • The Taliban claimed responsibility Thursday for the bombing, which was carried out by suicide bomber wearing an Afghan National Army uniform. Some senior officials think the bomber may have been given access to the base because he was believed to be an informant, said two former intelligence officials.

Several former intelligence officials described the attack in Afghanistan as "devastating" to the agency. A number of the officers killed had been counter terrorism operatives since before the 9/11 attacks....

  • Its (the unit's) primary role has been to run informant networks in Afghanistan and over the border, said one former agency official.

"That was one of the bases where they were paying people and running people and sending them into Pakistan," he said.

  • The CIA's activities on the base were an open secret locally, he added, "al Qaeda knows it and the townspeople know it and the Taliban know it.""...
